Grim Fandango problem (XP)
Hello all,
I cannot get Grim Fandango to play. I have read many threads and tried several possible solutions but nothing has helped. Problem: game installed successfully but when I click on the "Play Grim Fandango" icon, the game only opens for about 1 second before crashing I have the most current versions of my video drivers as well as of DirectX, I've installed the 1.01 patch, the game is set for Windows 98 compatibility mode, and I don't have an Intel processor so disabling hyper threading won't help me. I've done everything I can think of! Here are my system specs, if it helps any. http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/5...emspecsdy2.png Thanks a bunch for any help you can provide. |
The only things I can think of to recommend is to try the patch and launcher.
For your convenience, click here, and find the Grim Fandango Launcher, then click here for the patch. Install both. A neat little thing about the Launcher is that it will let you copy the CD-ROMs onto your hard drive, so you don't need to have the CDs in the drive to play the game, which helps it run smoother and faster. |
But I have both the patch and the launcher already. Neither helps. :( Like I said, I've tried everything I can think of.

I know this may sound counterintuitive but take it out of compatibility mode and just run it in XP. It's the only thing I can think of now.

It was worth a try, but that didn't help either. :(
|
Did you try Residual?
|
What's that?
|
It's a subproject of ScummVM. http://www.scummvm.org/subprojects.php

Thanks for the tip, Collector! :) For the first time ever, I was able to actually make progress in the game. Only problem is Residual does not currently support saving and loading games, which is kind of disappointing. I guess I'll just keep searching for a solution that works entirely.

From your description it doesn't sound like your problem was completely identical to mine, but maybe it's worth a shot:
