Kyrandia book 1- cannot get it to run :(
I recently bought this game having never played it (Ifigured it was about time), and of course, I cannot get it to run. I have the CD version with speech. I have already tried it on my newer PC with Windows XP. I will run fine, but I can't get any sound no matter how many times I play around with the setup.
I also tried it on my old PC which has Windows 98 and MS-DOS. I tried installing it both ways. I can get the sound perfectly, but the game crashes within seconds. I already tried looking at Westwood studios website and did what they suggested, which did not help either. Any advice? |

ScummVM supports this game now but along with having Scumm, you need the Kyrandia.dat file (scroll down to find it). Now, I got it to run on my XP with music (I didn't really do anything) so I never had to use this (therefore I'm not exactly sure what you have to do).
Also, I wonder (this is speculation), if using VDM Sound might not help as well? |

Have you tried copying them all to the hard drive (in a folder) and having it find the game there?

Copy all *.APK, *.CPS, *.PAK, *.VRM files and the kyra.dat to your HDD.

Tried dosbox yet??
I suggest you download DosBox and D.O.G.
DosBox will run the most dos games without any problem. Sound will setup automatic or you can use the game setup within DosBox. Recommended is the game setup. Use D.O.G. as a GUI to DosBox to make things easier. When using a cd game you have to mount the cd with DosBox. I don't have any experience with mounting but the help file should explain it. You can find DosBox freeware here: http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1 and D.O.G. freeware here: http://www.freewebs.com/erikgg/ Hope it will help... |
