King's Quest 3 Spell on page (spoilers)

Whenever I try casting this spell it works up until I get to the part about putting it in the jar, then it says I did something wrong. I even got online and found a walkthrough on how to do it, but it still did the same thing. Can anyone help?

My manual says "pour" instead of "put".

The game is really sensitive when it comes to the correct "spell grammar".
