AMBER Journeys Beyond
Having trouble running game on Windows-XP Home SL-2. Ran fine under Win98. Any Suggestions? It's really an intriguing game. I never finished it and wanted to get back into it.

As far as I'm aware, Amber is one of those games that won't run directly in XP at all. You can still use things like Virtual PC to do so though.

Too bad, it was a fun game. Really wanted to get back into it. Not familiar with Virtual PC.

I just got Amber - Journeys Beyond and I want to play it under XP. Can anyone explain this Virtual PC thing?

Virtual PC is now free, but you will still need a copy of Win9x to install in it.

I've installed win98 in the virtual machine but it won't recognize my sound card, it also won't let me install it mayself since the driver for the sound card is not compatible with win 98 (which makes sense since it's a new computer with new hardware)...
Any suggestions would be most appreciated |

You don't need drivers for your real hardware for your virtual machine.

Thanks, but when I try to run the game it says that the sound card is not installed (while in my "real" OS [vista] it IS installed correctly and working fine...). Plus when I look in the virtual machine at Device Manager it doesn't recognize the sound card... (BTW I'm using VMware workstation for the virtuall PC)

Vmware requires an obscure driver for emulated sound card on Windows 98. As far as I remember, it as a 128 Bit Creative card. Make a search for "Creative PCI 128"+driver and try to install that driver for sound support.
Cheers... |
