Tunguska problem near end of game (spoilers)

I have the "mold" and try to show it to the camera to tell Max we need water, but the game will not let me use the mold with the camera. I have looked at multiple walkthroughs and tried everything. Please help!

You're thinking of the wrong part.

Anyway, I figured it out. It was a matter of me having to tell Nina what I'm doing before actually doing it.
