I got this error in day 5.

I'm not sure why this error should be occurring. I can't reproduce it in my copy of Longbow or in the version Christy Marx made available.

It looks like the game is trying to find a file that it can't locate. Did you try to TALK to the bartender, or do something to him, or give him something? Maybe his character portait is missing.

Now, did you obtain the game legally? I suspect this error comes from having an "abandonware" copy of the game with some missing files, and this site doesn't give technical advice for pirated copies.

If I'm making an invalid assumption, of course, I apologize.

I have same copy as playthrough guys have, playing with this D-fend.
I was trying to give bartender money, to buy beer/ale. So the problem can be that Robin Hood is maybe alcoholic?

You don't need to give the Barkeeper money.

He'll give you ale if you have a container to put it in. Maybe the Abbot had something you could use?

Now see if you can play the game without getting the error, although if this happens every time you try to give someone money you might be in trouble. Try giving money to other people you meet and see if the problem happens again.

You're on the right track generally in the game

although I'd recommend starting Day 5 over again and finding a better way to get the robe, one that gets you more points. See what you can do with the brown-robed monk besides letting him go. But it's totally optional.

yay, got empty cask and gave it to bar keeper. but now i cant get into church, somekinda pixelhunting stuff? he wont enter, just stand behind door...

If you want to enter the Church, you should probably use the HAND icon on the door. Walking up to it won't work. That's also true for a lot of other doorways in the game.

Although if I were you, I'd first try to investigate what the bartender meant when he mentioned a secret passageway. What's that iron gate doing in the back of his pub anyways?

Got the game loaded and all, however after selecting my soundcard settings which is a Soundblaster 32 awe. I get an error message that it can not find my sound card. Would love to play this game with sound. Help would be appreciated. By the way using Windows 98 to play it.

Play it in DOSbox, a DOS emulator. Download and install this.

Open the dosbox.conf file with Notepad. At the very end of the file, type this:

mount c C:\

C:

Then start up DOSbox and run the game as you would in DOS (the .exe file that runs the game is SCIDHUV.EXE.)

You could also, in place of writing "mount c C:\" write "mount c C:\Sierra\Robin\" or whatever directory you put the game files in. Then you won't have to change directories when you start DOSbox, just type in SCIDHUV.EXE. (Although if you want to use DOSbox for other games, this is not recommended.)

Also install the SCI code patch (available here) that will fix some animation timing problems.
