Default Eric the Unready..

Is the game generally that harsh that if you accidentally use up or lose an item, you have to start again?

For example, I used Hog-Wild on myself, and then had no Hog-Wild to use on the pig...

Hmm... don't really know. Most classic text adventures were very unforgiving, but I don't think Eric had any real dead-ends. On the other hand, if you break a bottle for instance, you shouldn't be surprised if the contents are lost forever.

there was no other way to get the pig to go out of the privvy. oh well, that's over, and i'm making saves all the time just in case something like that happens again,
