Default Quest For Glory 4 Keyboard Error

I was trying to play QFG4 on windows 2000 today, and the game ran fine until I pressed a button on the keyboard. The game then crashedto the desktop, and every time I used the keyboard after that, it would crash again. Has any one else had this problem, and do you know how to fix it?

Thanks for the help

What do you need the keyboard for in QFG4 anyway? I don't recall ever having to use it.

Well, to name your savegames, for instance. And it can be more practical in certain situations.

Anyway, masteryoda555, you're not giving us much to go on. What version of the game are you using (floppy/CD, original release, collection, etc.)? Are you using the various patches Sierra released for it (see their ftp server)? Are you using newrisingsun's patch on top of that? And then, how exactly are you launching the game? Are you using VDMSound? Are you using DOSBox? Furthermore: do you get a message when the game crashes? What is the exact wording?

And I'm sure I'm still forgetting a couple of questions.

The version that i'm using is the "Sierra Originals" CD version. I'm booting the game with VDMsound but I still have the problem. As for a error message, I get a jumble of letters and numbers that show up on the screen for about half a second then the game shuts off. I've tried patching the game, but that doesn't help at all. I've also tryed running it in dosbox, but the game never even loads, and if it even does, its way to slow to play.

Thanks

Hmm... I can't reproduce the problem, whatever way I use to launch the game. One question I should have begun with, though: which version are you running, the DOS one (installed with install.exe, run with sierra.exe, uses beautiful coloured, animated cursors), or the Windows version (installed with setup.exe, uses ugly black and white cursors)? Both should be on the game CD. I recommend you use the DOS version (using VDMSound, or DOSBox [see here for Sierra games under DOSBox]), as it may prove more stable. But, if it's the DOS version you're having trouble with, then try the other one.

I had many problems getting QFG4 to work now-a-days, but if you use the dos CDrom version under DosBox it should run perfectly. Although I recommend using the new rising sun patches alongside DosBox because Dos Box does not cure all the problems.

Thanks for the help.I'm going to try some of the stuff listed above, and if I get it to work, I'll post how I did here for others having problems getting QFG4 to run.

Thanks Again
