KQ7: XP ERROR: Windows Title Not Found
This was one of my fave games. And now I can't even get it to work!
So I'm trying to run it on XP...and it's coming up with this 'windows title not found' error. I first off thought it's because I have a newer version of windows than the game intented, but I have alot earlier sierra games that run on this pc! The game installs properly, Configures the audio and graphics fine (being changed in compatability mode 256 colours) But when I run the sierraw.exe or sierraws.exe on both the disc and the installed version on my pc. It's displaying that error. Help please! |

Please take a look at this thread, specifically the last post, and let us know if those instructions solve the problem you're having. |

Look on the KQ7 CD. Is there a Sierra.inf there? If yes, try copying that into the KQ7 directory. |

Positive. Not on the CD.
It worked on an old PC I used to have. So the files should be fine. It's just some XP thing? I've tried running it 95/98 compatability. Not happening! |

Could it be a hidden file? In Windows Explorer, look at Tools / Folder Options / View and make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
I can upload a Sierra.inf file that you could try to download and put in your KQ7 directory. I don't have time now; will do it in a couple of hours. I don't see how you couldn't have it. It's a file that tells the install how to work. Unless some versions of KQ7 had a different method for installing than others. |

Nope no good =/
I did have it, it just doesn't list as .INF It says setup information file. I've entered the details as of the other KQ7 Post. either way nothing is working. stupid thing. I've had it with it! |

KQ7 wrestling
Don't take offence Romantica but you need to be able to
recognize the basic few hundred extensions used commonly on PC - so that you won't try installing a file which was never intended to be added to Windows driver database Anyway, do you REALLY have all files of KQ7 (in approp places)? ... and don't EVER give up

Having file extensions turned on is always a benefit too. From what you've said, I'm guessing you have windows set to hide them (which it does by default).
In Windows Explorer, look at Tools / Folder Options / View and make sure "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked, and your kq7.inf file should be shown as such, instead of just "kq7".

Help2
Hi, I was having many of the same problems that the guy that started this thread was having, so I thought that I would just post here to prevent clutter.
I too have the Windows title not found error, and did what the link said but with no luck. I even moved it to the same directory, just in case, but still no dice. Worse yet, while the others seem to be getting something after the error, I've got nothing. A blank window pops up, and if I ran sierraw.exe, it simply closes again. If I ran sierraws.exe instead, it says breakpoint reached, and says it is going to close, but doesn't until I force it to. (Send error report? NO!) I really did enjoy this game back in the day, please help. |

KQ7: a hard nut to crack
Snacker,
Welcome on board! as this issue seem to be quite common, I'll look into it. Will come up with a general solution soon (except if I need to reverse-engineer the exe, which takes a few days and for which Sierra will hang me by the ***** ) Please be patient if no programmer will do the dirty work before us

a KQ7 install solution
Okay guys, here's what I've got:
I quick checked the pivotal forums and found there are NO essential quality differences between KQ7WIN and KQ7DOS. This is no real inspiration for any programmer to patch the notoriusly buggy Sierra installer... so... here is the DOS way, please try it and only if performance is unacceptable, answer the thread (I bet you will not It is a screenshot because of this ******** forum script. Aaaarghhh. Hope this helped. Happy Peaceful X-Mas to all You in case of no-see until then! Greetings to Jingle Belle, Kurufinwe, Dale and the rest of the maintenace brigade!

Thanks Jolaes. The screenshot wasn't displaying for me, so here is a link to it.
Hopefully this will be helpful to those who couldn't get the game running with the other method. |

Don't apologize and Welcome!
I'm glad you found a solution (and it was hiding amongst the many posts that are on here ). |
