Absolutely. I recently replayed it, and it's still as enjoyable as when it was first released. It even looks rather good, as it seems voxel graphics age pretty well compared to polygonial graphics. That is, if you use a crack to ramp up the resolution above the normal maximum (which is 320x180 ).

This kind of rendering is highly CPU/memory bound so its speed didn't increase as much as standard polygonal rasterizing, but it was a very clever choice from Appeal at the time!

I think I played it on 800x600. You could go higher with the patch, but for some reason I couldn't get higher resolutions to work.

It's time we got a voxel accelerator already.

The game supports 320x240, 400x300 and 512x384. There's a high resolution patch which supposedly can give you a buggy 640x480, but it never worked for me. The anti-aliasing make up for the low resolution, though.

Man this game rocks. I've replayed it about five times, never finishing it due to bugginess, but I'll keep replaying it every few years until I get it right! An absolutely unique game, and arguably the only title worthy of the title action-adventure, because of its equal split between the two.

I meant to play this when it came out, but never got around to it. I remember having the demo for it, and the water graphics being ahead of its time.

Yeah, no game until Morrowind could touch Outcast's water graphics.

Does anyone else have have the DVD rerelease version?
It's the only DVD game I know of (and own) that is set up like a special edition DVD movie. Complete with bloopers, a 5.1 sountrack and everything, in short; it's awesome! I still can't bring myself to let go of my initial release version though, because of the lovely big box.... ...mmm big boxes

Yeah, I have the DVD and the original cd release.
It's very cool with the bloopers and all. Also the original box cover is nice, looks just like a movie poster.

Now let's all get together and weep at the thought of the sequel's demise. (sorry for the reopening of any old scars...)

I'm terrible at action but I persevered in this game because it's so remarkable. Truly a game not to be missed.

Maybe eBay is the only choice at these times?

The sequel wasn't shaping up too good anyway. Reported to have become a pure action game. I'd like a good sequel that retains the true essence of the first, but don't moarn over this one. I do pity that there hasn't been anything similar from the original team.

Apparently the publisher pushed the developers into dumbing it down and ultimately the devs just up and left cause they couldn't stand killing their own project like that. There was a thread about it some time ago, somewhere around here.
