SH1 was such a good game because it didn't fully explain the story, it forced you to think about it, and make your own theories. With SH3, they pretty much took all the mystery out of the game's story.
From what I've heard, SH4 isn't really connected to the other SH games, except: Spoiler:

As long as the Characters and plot are good I'm happy.
But more focus on good puzzles and less on combat wouldn't hurt eiter. It would also be nice if there would make it so you wouldn't have to be stuck in a big maze like building for hours at a time.
