Getting permission to use game music...
 

Hi;

I'm currently in the process of developing a short film for film school and wanted to use Anna's Theme from Outlaws. Does anyone know to go about getting permission from LucasArts to use a snippet of the music and any regulations involved?

I've just started my second media production assignment at Uni and they told us not to bother with trying to get music like this for our projects. It will take too long and it's too damn expensive. :)

Well, the music is on the game CD... All you have to do is somehow get in touch with Lord Clint Bajakian... :)

I don't think Mr. Bajakian has the rights to the soundtrack. Anything created for the game is almost certainly the property of LucasArts and no one else.

Perhaps you could email [email protected]?

Does your school have a music department? Maybe you could contact one of the students, give them the music, and ask them to make a song that sounds like it. :)

Actually, SerialFreak, that's not a bad idea. After all, Clint Bajakian was also doing music that "sounded like" something else when he scored Outlaws (Ennio Morricone's Western soundtracks). So it'd be carrying on a fine tradition. 8-)

That's a pretty good idea Serial. There are a few flyers on our school bulletin board that have recent music graduates advertising their wares for composing soundtracks. The only setback is that they don't provide their talents voluntarily. But I'll e-mail the PR folks to see if I can use the track for free and mention that it's just for a small assignment with no intent of being used for financial gain.

That's true I suppose. Maybe non-graduates will be a little more willing to volunteer. Sounds like a plan. :)
