Does anyone use the iPad / iPhone / Android 3.2+?
I wonder if I can ask a quick favor? I'm developing a browser based adventure game engine, and need to know if my sound code works on different browsers:
http://enterthestory.com/temp3/good_game_code.html That link has just two buttons: "play sound" and "stop sound." It should play the sound of a creaking door, looping continuously until it is stopped. These are the tests so far: Windows, all major browsers: yes, works. Android 2.2 (i.e, older Android phones): they don't play sound on web pages. Android 2.3 (on new phones) - ? Linux, desktop - ? (I don't anticipate any problems but who knows?) iPad - ? I've heard stories that some i-OS versions don't like ogg sound files. iPhone -? Regular mac -? Other (blackberry, game console browser, etc.) -? To be honest, I am seriously thinking of making this a silent game. The Internet has been mainstream for 15 years and there is still no cross browser way to play sound. I hear promises (e.g. HTML5) but I wonder if it will ever really happen? Anyway, if anyone could give that page a quick look I'd be very grateful. Thanks!

That's serious. I just added an MP3 button. Any chance you could refresh the page and see if the MP3 works please?

The MP3 works fine. It does only play once rather than continuous, but it does play.

Thanks. Not looping though? Ah well.
I've decided to bite the bullet and make silent games. My heart was never in the music anyway - music increases emotion but limits the range of interpretations. My games are a little unusual: I am not going for cinematic experiences, but for exploration. I want people to draw their own conclusions about each kiss, about each death, and about each detail along the way. I also want them to leave my game open while they browse other stuff.

Both .ogg and .mp3 work fine and repeat on Android 2.3.3.
Samsung Galaxy S if it's of interest. EDIT: Just read your last post, never mind me then! Last edited by Intense Degree; 09-29-2011 at 01:57 AM. Reason: Too stupid to read the whole thread before posting. |
