Unofficial Fix Patch for 1.7

http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/...nofficial-fix/

for those who may not know when Obsidian was rushed to release the game by LucasArts they were not able to complete some parts of the game but left the files IN the final game release so that devoted community members have with long effort been able to find and restore some if not much of this lost content. Though this is not an official release or update it has been done with great respect and total integration of only original material and is covered by the copyrights and EULA of the original game. You must own an official and legal copy of the game to apply this mod patch. It restores a lot of important material and fixes many bugs that exist in the vanilla release. There are in addition a number of other community mods that open locked doors to unused areas, alter or improve character models and several even restore the Droid Planet that was never completed for the final release. Enjoy and May the Force be with You.

I like Obsidian but the fact that nearly all of their games require some download to patch things up after they're released makes me think they're not very good at finishing and polishing a game up within any sort of time frame.

zane 07-18-2011 03:12 PM

^welll to be fair, that kind of game is very difficult to "wrap up" Theyr expected to have lots and lots of sidequests and events and things to do. Most similar C-rpgs get released with alot of content unfinished.
Ive been meaning to play kotor2 for a long time. I loved the first one and for some reason i just havnt gotten around to the second (possibly in part because i fear being disappointed). But maybe these mods are a sign i should play this game finally.

Obsidian had Lucas breathing down their necks for KoTOR2 (and BioWare have Lucas AND EA which is one of several reasons I don't expect much from ToR) which resulted in the game having to be rushed. the game is buggy as hell and suffers from missing content, but it's still a much bigger, more complete and more fun game than Dragon Age 2 for instance

sadly Sega were even less patient with Obsidian's recent Alpha Protocol which was released with a lot of bugs and a few gameplay areas still needing work (ie: stealth) and Sega refuse to allow it to be patched as they think it's a waste of money

To be fair to Obsidian, I played Dungeon Siege III last month and I had no technical problems with it whatsoever, so hopefully the harsh reaction to the buggy release of Fallout: New Vegas got through to them this time. They've been really lucky so far - publishers continue to work with them despite a spotty record of being able to deliver a fully-built game on time - and I hope for their sake they can learn to continually deliver a game like DS3 each time out. It'd be a shame to lose a great developer simply because they can't work to a schedule.

All true, these posts detail the challenges they faced and the mod I posted about fixes 90 percent of the bugs and adds some really wonderful content back in, it makes it a much more complete game and is well worth a play thru.

hmmm, I have the game, haven´t played it yet

Should I start with this MOD ?

Sotha 07-19-2011 03:11 PM

Is 1.7 new? I remember this mod getting kinda abandoned.

Christian IV 07-19-2011 07:06 PM

Yes start with this mod, it will give you the fullest game experience.

You may be thinking of the Team Giska mod project to do a restoration, that has indeed been largely dropped as they took forever and never really completed anything.

this new effort is done by mostly two of the leading modders in the SW KoTOR community with help from many many others, and they did a first rate job, it is bug free, well tested and totally true to the original game content, ie NO add ons or pink hair or weird stuff. It is a masterpiece of mod work and really worthy of the game, for it allows the full game story to be enjoyed and restores movies, dialogue and areas to the game that were left out of the original release but which were part of the master plan. 1.7 will be followed by 1.8 with more add ons but this is really a complete restoration package as it is.

Here are the steps to a full install of all needed:

Knights of the Old Republic 2 The Sith Lords
RESTORATION MODS AND PATCHES

Official Patches:
http://www.filefront.com/listing/pub...-Republic-II-T...

Official Patch 1.0a
Official Patch 1.0b

TSL Patch (U.S. Version) (1.0b)
Filename: sw_pc_english_from200424_to210427.exe
http://www.filefront.com/3845913/KOT...s-v1.0b-patch/

Official Music Patch (makes the music in game stero)
http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filef...te_Patch;52024

Official Movie Patch 6 parts (upgrades the movies in game to higher quality)
http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filef...tch_Part_2;520...

And you can Add the following Restoration Mod for the most complete Restoration Package:

nihilus_tobin

You can download a package that includes it here:

http://www.filefront.com/14782247/Add-to-TSLRC.rar/

then the full restoration mod:

TSL Restored Content Mod 1.7

http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/13-tslrcm/

TSL Restored Content Mod 1.7 Fix:

http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/...nofficial-fix/

Each of these mods has read me's to instruct installation.

Best proceedure is to install the game, then patch with official patches 1.0b and the music and video patches if you want them, then add the Restored Content mod, and its patches and then these final ones if you want them. Enjoy and may the force be with you.

And if you are playing on XP dont forget to add the following line to the game INI in the main KoTOR II folder:

Under Graphics Options, add this line:

Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1

I guess now is maybe a good time to play KOTOR 2 then..I didn't play it because everyone said it was rushed and generally not as good as KOTOR 1. Well I would have played it anyway but I sold my Xbox. Loved KOTOR 1 though, thought it was Biowares next best game after BGII.

One Q..does this mod make it more demanding? Would I be able to play it on my netbook? (Atom N80 1.66 dual core, 2gb, 128mb GMA 950 graphics, XP...) I'm guessing probably not, I can play games like Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Thief all fine but this is alot newer I think..

Christian IV 07-26-2011 09:49 AM

You may be able to play it but KoTOR 2 is intensive in resource demands in some ways. Give it a try and the folks over at LucasForums are very helpful about tech stuff.
