console version of the witcher cancelled
I didn't want to report this untill I knew it was true. But today on the Wicther forums Tom Ohle (CD RED's pr guy) posted this:
http://www.vg247.com/2009/04/29/conf...#comment-67964 Scroll down to Mikhal Kicinski's post where he explains the reasons for cancelling the console version of The Witcher known as Rise of the White Wolf. (soutce:http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/inde...topic=23707.60) In this thread, http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/inde...topic=23707.15 there's a link to Gamebanshee that basically explains that CD Project has cancelled the console versions of The Witcher and an undisclosed project as well while they are focusing on making The Witcher 2. Brother None (who works for gamebanshee) says a bit laterin the thread that many people were let go at CD Project, lately two dozens people were let go. (and this was the second round of firing people at CD Project). source: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/inde...topic=23707.30 I, for one, am sad that so many people have lost their jobs in the current job-market. I'm somewhat happy that we do get a Witcher 2 game, but this happyness comes with a bitterweetness in my mind... edit: A bit more information http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/fi...onsole-on-hold

I am really mad , this game was much better than any RPG that year, even fable2, i wanted it for consoles requested on forums, finally they announced , i was happy untill this week when i got the news confirmation.
Witcher 2 on PC, well don't have PC now, atleast they can port it on 360, with same gameplay why to change evrything for console. |

I'm sort of mad, too - but I doubt, we can do anything about it.
However, Witcher 2 will be developed for both PS3, Xbox 360 as well as the PC - at the same time. It's going to be multi-platform release. Here's a thread over at rpgcodex that tries to sort it all out. (the codex can be a little harsh at times...but also fair...) http://rpgcodex.net/phpBB/viewtopic....4d428762acaee4 There's also an interview linked in the above thread that polish website polygamia has done with Michael Kicinski, the joint CEO (boss) of CDP. It's in Polish, but there's a English translation (in excerpts) at the bottom of the interview. It really is a very nice read... and here's the link: http://polygamia.pl/Polygamia/1,9533...Kicinskim.html

Lame, I was looking forward to this. I'll have to pick it up for the PC sometime I guess.

This is only one of the recent signs pointing to CD Projekt being in a bad shape financially... So I'd say get over the officially-cancelled RotWW and keep hoping The Witcher 2 doesn't fall through as well.

Kinda good news. Not the financial problems and people loosing their jobs of course, but i never liked the idea of them dividing resources to a console port. The Witcher is a PC game and they should be 100% focused on the sequel, not a lame port.

They should've released a good port, not a lame.

It was going to be difficult to perfectly translate the gameplay of the original to a gamepad, not to mention the inventory and alchemy parts. Even if they somehow managed to do a decent port, i have the feeling it was going to be badly received by console players and console reviewers, but thats just my feeling.

I agree. Too many lame ports out there. I don't think it would have been well-received in the console world either. Here's hoping for a successful Witcher 2!
