Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is official

Well, Rockstar have finally announced the very eagerly awaited next game in the Grand Theft Auto series.

Not much is known except that Rockstar is aiming for 19th October for America and 22nd October for Europe.

Check out the official site (Not much there)

Already drooling... :9~

Also, news at GameSpot and Boomtown.

Why does it always have to be PS2 exclusive?

Both GTA3 and Vice City got an amazing reception when they were released on PC. This game won't appear on other formats until well into 2005, which is a damned disgrace.

"preorder now to avoid disappointment"... Hehe :)

I wonder what time period this will be set in and will it have realworld hit music.
And I'm glad to hear from the GameSpot news item that they are trying to take the series further again. They have done that well in all GTA games so far. (some would argue that not in GTA2, but I liked that one a lot as well)

Hopefully this one will be more than just a change of location. I was disappointed by Vice City, seeing as it was nothing but a mere expansion. But then again, I thought GTA3 was dull and repetitive, so it's maybe not shocking that I didn't like VC.

That's a slightly underwhelming logo. But I'm definitely excited.

Ninja Dodo 03-01-2004 08:51 AM

It would be interesting if they tried something else...

I'm not a fan of GTA. I played Vice City briefly and though I can see how it's a good game, intimidating jury members and the like isn't my idea of fun.

Damn, I would really like to see a new Pc exclusive GTA game, now that would be something.

Now that these games are made on ps2 standards, us pc gamers get GTA:SA a year later and basically only thing different from the "ugly" ps2 versions is higher resolution options, and mp3 radio station.

The Seed 03-01-2004 09:42 AM

I'm not saying that it should be a PC exclusive, but it should at least be released at the same time.
The PC audience has given just as much commitment to the GTA series in recent years, and their being screwed once again, because some bigwig thinks he can make more money by associating the words "Exclusive" with the title.
I bet this is down to the publishers intervention.
Damn you Take Two!

Aye. its an inferior attempt at what EA Big seemed to be going for with the NFL Street logo...

Why do they always release it right after my birthday???? :(

And I think I'm going to wait even longer, because my (little brothers) PS2 isn't working correctly at all anymore... I guess I should have someone take a look at that, btw...

Royal Fool 03-02-2004 03:20 AM

For those of you who are pissed about the PS2 exclusivity, I understand you very well. This game will complete the contract that Sony made with Rockstar. Expect future GTA games to appear simultaneously on PS2 and Xbox. (And PC?)

And I agree, the logo isn't too good. Hope they add some color to it or do something slightly less ugly with it. My bet is on a 70's rap/rock athmosphere.

Wouldn't it be cool to have a GTA game set in the future? :)

remixor 03-03-2004 04:52 AM

Heh, I think the logo is pretty fitting. It's the exact type of logo I'd expect to see on the back of a black t-shirt in a town like San Andreas.

wilco 03-03-2004 05:04 AM

If liberty city is new york, vice city is miami, what city san andreas? san francisco?

Royal Fool 03-03-2004 05:10 AM

Yeah, San Francisco is most likely the model for San Andreas just as it was in the original GTA.

SamandMax 03-03-2004 06:23 AM

I still wish they had the game set in Sin City. San Francisco is a kind of dull place to set a GTA game in.

Let's not jump to conclusions. Maybe it is modeled after San Francisco, but "maybe" isn't enough to already start criticizing it for being too dull.

Does anyone remember what San Andreas in GTA 1 was like?

Anyway, if it is modelled on San Franciso at least it will have a really big bridge.

remixor 03-03-2004 07:24 AM

When I played GTA1 I don't remember realizing it was supposed to be San Francisco. I don't think it was intended to be a very accurate recreation of the city. Then again, I played it years ago when it first came out.

At least it won't be flat as a pancake (cough Vice City cough!)

And you can't say no to endless Bullitt minigames - can you?! :P
