Default A game to show off my new computer.

Greetings Game Fans,

I finally did it I broke down and bought a new hp computer. It's the first time in maybe seven or eight years that I have a new one so Im very excited. I do find myself in the depths of a dillema however. My wife wants to by me some games as stocking stuffers to go with the new computer but I dont know which games to pick. Hince Im hear to ask you good people for help. I know I know their are a hundred which game to buy threads alraidy on hear but I would still greatly apreciate your help. Let me give you some idea of the kind of thing I have in mind. I really like a game with a good story that keeps you glued to the seat. I also like environments and settings I can loose myself in. On the graphical front I was really hoping to get something with amazing graphics to show off what my new comp can do. Suggestions from any genre will be apreciated and I may be able to talk the wife into more than one game so multiple suggestions are helpfull.

Thanks in advance.

What are your new system specs? (also for Bioshock, you'll need a graphics card that can support 3.0 pixel shading)

Assuming your PC will handle it at decent settings, Crysis puts absolutely every other game to shame in terms of visuals . If you want to show off a computer, this is definitely the title to do it with. I'd recommend Vista (for DirectX 10), a couple of GB of RAM, and an 8800 video card or better. As far as your criteria go, there are awesome visuals and brilliantly realised environments, but the story quality comes up a wee bit short.

As Lucien mentioned, you won't go too far wrong with Bioshock either. Great visuals, an utterly engrossing story, and a superb setting.

Turns out by the way that you can run Crysis on DX10 settings under Windows XP. I haven't tried it myself as I haven't got the game - the setting/premise doesn't appeal to me - but it might be worth testing out.

I'll second Bioshock. I'm playing it now and it looks gorgeous. Most of the characters are a bit grotesque, but the environments are amazing.

Try Bioshock. It looks great on a PC.
And then get yourself the Crysis Demo ( Don't bother with the full version imho ). Crysis will really put your machine through the paces.

Everything there sounds great apart from the 8800GTS.

If you buy one of those now you'll be throwing money down the toilet. Wait for the 8800GT to become more widely available, as it's half the price for more performance and less power and heat too.
