games with true real time lighting/shadowing
Hey,
im looking for games which have proper lighting systems which support real time per pixel lighting and shadowing. I only know of four: Doom 3 Quake 4 and Tomb raider legend (on PC it does, not sure bout 360 as havent played it) Prey Some games that should, but dont.... Half life 2 and episode 1, Valve promised it for episode 2, but from the looks of the screenshots it doesnt look so. F.E.A.R - has some sources which are able to shadow, but no true shadowing/lighting system liuke the four i mentioned. Oblivion - as far as i am aware this doesnt. Gears of War - the graphics of the game are great. could have been better with great lighting. you would expect the unreal three engine to support real time shadowing etc, so it must have been disabled or toned down for performance reasons. so, any reccomendations? |

Are you sure about Gears of War? I've purchased the ultimate guide from Bradygames, a 175-page book containing a large and extensive art book, which states that Gears of War is all normal-mapped and has extensive real-time shaders.

I would definitely categorize Gears of War and other Unreal 3 engine based games as having unified lighting/shadow system. Better than Doom3 engine, in fact, since they do deferred shading and allow for a lot more lights with more advanced lighting models.
You can also count Deus Ex: Invisible War. |

How about Thief 3? And it plays a big part in the gameplay.
