Alan Wake

Have any information regarding the gameplay been said about Alan Wake? Am I the only one who thinks this screenshot make it look like an adventure game?

Kolzig 04-21-2007 03:10 PM

Nothing has been said about the game, but I think it plays like Max Payne. Except that there is propably going to be less shooting and more looking around.

But I don't think there will be puzzles and stuff. I'm thinking more like Twin Peaks stylish creepy stuff.

Henke 04-21-2007 03:18 PM

Well that it will be creepy like Twin Peaks and Stephen Kings' work is the only thing I've read about it. I haven't heard anything about shooting or puzzles.

I read something about monsters coming from the dark and you must aim a flashlight at them in order to stay alive but I don't know if that was just gossip.

But if you judge from this screenshot it sure looks like it will include "dialogue, picking up objects and using them to solve puzzles" to me though. :P

I think the engine of the game would be perfect for an adventure game, IF Alan Wake itself couldn't be called an ag. :)

I'm really curious about this game, Max Payne remains to be one of my all time favorite games

Kolzig 04-22-2007 05:48 AM

I'm hoping Alan Wake will be released in Christmas 2007.
Too bad that most likely I can't play it at all... :frown:

Damn you Bill Gates because of your pile of money. It's a shame that the game is only for Windows Vista and Xbox360. No XP love anymore from Bill...

Dasilva 04-22-2007 05:57 AM

This game is probably going to play like a mis of Max Payne and Silent Hill. It looks like a superb game so far. :)

MdaG 04-22-2007 06:03 AM

I'm pretty sure I'm going to get this for the 360. Twin peaks, Silent hill and Max Payne are all good things in my book :-)

Henke 04-23-2007 05:48 AM

I'm trying to find an old PC Gamers where they interviewed the developers. If I remember correctly the interviewer said that it was risky to release such a game as Alan Wake now and the designer agreed but said it was a risk they were willing to take. Sounds once again like an adventure game but who knows.

Anyway, like many already said, it looks interesting. :)

VictimOfScience 04-23-2007 06:41 PM

My PC will be nice and upgraded by the time this releases so I will likely just get the PC version though if the 360 can run it as well as the devs have said that it should, then the 360 is looking a lot more attractive than I thought...!

But yeah, it looks like a graphically enhanced Silent Hill really, which is not necessarily a bad thing (well, up to #2).

SoccerDude28 04-23-2007 07:51 PM

I'm worried that the gameplay of Alan Wake will be similar to something like RE4, which is not my cup of coffee.

Intrepid Homoludens 04-23-2007 11:26 PM

Now why of all things would Remedy want to do something as stupid as that, Soccsie? Alan Wake is nowhere near a zombie game, much less a Resident Evil wannabe (neither was the Max Payne series for that matter). Remedy didn't come into their own just to end up mimicking the mechanics of other games.

I'll put forth my guess. The gameplay will most likely involve the use of light and darkness as at least one of your main weapons in combat. The combat itself may not require the typical shooting and melee styles of other action/adventures, however it should most likely demand timing, dexterity, and quick wits. On that note, I'm guessing many of the suspenseful moments to have puzzle-like challenges in them - timed sequences, triggering domino effects, heavy environmental interaction, and possibly escorting an NPC from A to B.

That said, I'm expecting the player to have to rely on the physical properties of the gameworld and play very close attention to what can be available to advantage depending on the situation.

I'm also guessing most of the character interactions - acquiring clues, gaining back story, procuring key items - will take place during the day. If the day/night cycles are that strongly utilized as gameplay and story elements, you as the player will probably need to get as much done as possible to fortify yourself....for when the sun goes down and you've nothing but your wits and your light sources for your survival.

Gamespot has labeled the game as "Modern Action Adventure" the mystery thickens. :P This Vista crap is really getting on my nerves. I'm almost thinking of getting the damn thing. :)

Aren’t there murmurs circulating that this game is never going to be released?

Kolzig 08-20-2007 10:42 AM

Yeah right.

Alan Wake is coming late 2008/early 2009, there's no official news about that.
But the game is coming along nicely, just because they didn't want to show nothing at "E3", doesn't mean that the project isn't doing ok.

Remedy is in very special position, they are like id Software in a way. Nobody controls them, not even Microsoft.

No, nothing substantial.

Fop 08-20-2007 05:08 PM
