Didn't even know I could befriend it until I finished the game. Check out Nethack for another example of a virtual pet in an RPG. That game provides you as much emotional attachment as you could possibly grow to a single 8 bit ascii character. |

Now that I've seen some more of the footage from Fable 2, I have to say I'm pretty excited about the idea of being able to buy everything in the game. It's a pipedream of mine to actually see some deep politics involved in freeroaming fantasy settings. The execution is of course precariously difficult, because it's intricate subject matter, but I hope Fable 2 might be able to fulfil some of these hopes. I'm already pleased to hear that when you buy something, there will actually be quests involved that open up. Here's hoping there's also the chance to crown yourself lord over a town and then open up some more strategic options.
I'd really like to see a game some day that centres on politics as gameplay.

Didn't Demis Hassabis' game Republic: The Revolution sorta do that? The politics, I mean.

A bit, perhaps, but it sincerely lacked an interesting [fantasy] world. I'm talking a place with the depth of Morrowind, but politically mallable.
Update: Having seen the footage with the dog now too, I love it. Damn it, the guy has managed to enthuse me yet again

OK, let's all try to remember that Fable 2 is a roleplaying game, not an RTS or SIMS game, shall we ??
This means, that I don't want to be able to by everything in the game, nor do I want to have a wife and kids in the game. (especially not the nagging sort of wife ). I, and many with me, play games to slip away from reality, not to go live in another type of reality, or to live my life in another world. I play role-playing games because it gives me the chance to throw fireballs at the bad guys, to be an assasin that literally stabs people in the back or be a fearless warrior who actually rescues damsels in distress. Not the life another life in another world. I'm sorry, but I don't get this trend that's going around the rpg developers these days that says 'oh, let's make games in which the player IS the hero instead of games where the player actually PLAYS the hero.' If they, the rpg developers, want to do this, they really should make a SIM(ulation) game. |

No one forced you to get married in the Fable game.

Who wants to be forced to marry?
Damn all those marriage-centred RTS games.

I got through the first level of Fable before I lost my interest completely and Fable 2 seems to be XBox 360 only for now.

That crazy old coot Molyneux always snares me in with his promises. Creatures you can train! That poop! An RPG with growing trees! You can shape the towns you visit! Every. Single. Time. I have almost all of the games he's made, even the horribly controlled Black & White 2.
I enjoyed Fable the first, so I will be getting Fable 2 as well. And why can't you pick between a dog and cat? I am sick of this dog favoritism in the industry. |

Wow, this is really exciting! Mind you, Fable is the first Molyneux game I really got into (without having innitially heard all the buzz about it) so I haven't been burned by unfullfilled promises in the past. Hope he delivers the doogs, I mean goods.

Ah, Peter is at it again.
OK< the imagery looks stupendous, but I want to insist on this, since the coding and plot and all are probably done by now, or well advanced, a CAT option for the hud, it is a cool idea, but i really must insist, respectfully on a cat option. I have taken my cat Max into 3D with me and he is an integral part of my 3D visioning at times. I think it might be an amazing boost to sales fyi, Peter. Give it some thought. Otherwise, this looks very cool.

Hmm.. just not a Molyneaux fan, and most certainly not a Fable fan (couldn't see it as being anything beyond fantasy fluff), but we'll see...

Okay, that would never work.
Cats *tolerate* humans. They are not pets. Which is not to say I don't like cats, but they would simply never work for this kind of ally character. In the context of this game, if you drew your weapon in preparation for battle your cat might glance lazily at your enemy for a moment, then get bored and go and go lie in the sun. |

Agreed. I love cats, I have a cat, but she's not going to save me from anything except loneliness. Besides, they're only a couple of kilograms and could never help in a fight even if they wanted to.
