Playstation Home
http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/07/pl...playstation-3/
Comparable to Second Life, PlayStation Home is a virtual community of PS3 owners living together in both public and private environments. Users will be able to login, chat with both text and speech and play casual games together such as pool, bowling and even embedded arcade machines. And when the old stand-bys grow stale, users can invite one another into other PlayStation Network titles outside of PlayStation Home. Every user will have their own virtual apartment to decorate with furniture, their trophies from various games (see: achievements) and content from their own PS3s. For example, Phil Harrison took a snapshot of us in the crowd, slapped it onto a USB stick and right into a picture frame in his virtual flat. Not content at just images, users will also be allowed to share both music and videos with friends inside their private homes, which will most likely lead to some sort of underground pornography syndicate on the PlayStation Network. Coooool.

Now, that's a stab in the back for those who defended paying for Xbox Live Gold.

Hmm, it may sound good on paper, but could end up being extremely simple and gimmicky. I'll make a proper comment when they release screenshots or something.

There's already plenty of screenshots. And it looks like Balamb Garden from Final Fantasy VIII!

This looks really cool. At first when the news leaked, I was thinking a Mii / Achievement points ripoff, but it is definitely much more. I really hope they deliver to its promise.

Japanese will go nuts over this. If Sony can have this implemeted right, it will give them a huge leg up. I can also easily see this turning into a money making machine for them as well. They can create some fancy premium contents and charge for them. Fancy wall paper for your apartment anyone?

Looks like Uru live with uninteresting surroundings. But that does sound neat. It's not something I'd pay for, but...

Wow, I just saw the movie (HD version) Those graphics look very crisp and good. I must say after watching The small other world whatever mini game like thing and this Home... I have the feeling of wanting a PS3. lol. But at ÂŁ425 , no amount of slick features will make me buy it.
But Im happy with my affordable Wii & Ps2 for the new few years. Then I'll size up the 360 and PS3 to see who truly has the best package in 3 years down the road.

The proble I see with the concept is that.. Fine it's free, but i'd bet they will charge you for new clothes, furniture etc.
Sh*t, I won't buy that stuff in real life unless I REALLY have to. As long as user content is allowed and maybe users can make money from designing items etc.

LittleBigWorld - awesome!
Home - not so much (it'll be nowhere near as customizable and chaotic as Second Life, you can't afford flying penises on your console), but it'll be huge with the casual crowd. I don't see them buying PS3 specifically for that, though. The ball is in your park, Microsoft.

Well, Microsoft has recently started handing out real prizes for Gamerscore points so it's not exactly pointless.

You'll find more information here. Basically, you need to raise your Gamerscore for a fixed amount over a certain period of time. The prizes include gamer pictures, XBLA games, Microsoft points (money), promotional t-shirts and retail games.

I found it rather interesting until I read THIS, and I quote:
"The program is launching in the U.S. only" So, still rather pointless. If you're in Croation, like you say in your location, then none of us will have any use for the gamerpoints. |
