Get MediEvil, I loved that game, you could rip your arm off and clobber people with it.

Yes, Medievil is great. Spyro is great too. Also, I thought ToCa 2 and ToCa World Touring Cars are the best in the series. All Final Fantasy games are a given.

Some others worth mentioning:

Syphon Filter
Demolition Racer
Fear Effect 1 and 2
Tomb Raider 1
Dino Crisis (especially the first)
Resident Evil (obviously)
Actua Golf 3 (still the best console gold game ever!)
Ridge Racer Type 4 (best Ridge Racer ever!)
The Legend of Dragoon (excellent Final Fantasy clone from Sony)
Rollcage Stage 2 (WipeOut on wheels! And actually FUN! And playable!)
Ape Escape
Vagrant Story
Oddworld: Abe's Oddyssey and Abe's Exodus
Driver (and Driver 2, which was a fairly underrated game imo)
Tombi and Tombi 2 (both excellent alternative platformers)
Gran Turismo 2
Need For Speed 1-4
Metal Gear Solid
Tony Haw's 1 and 2
Trasher: Skate and Destroy (forgotten gem, first skateboard game with ragdoll physics! (I think))
The Adventures of Alundra (fantastic Zelda style adventure game)

Well, at least it's a start.

Oh yeah Klonoa I still mean to buy that. I played Klonoa 2 on the PS2, and it is definitely not a game for everyone, but I really liked it. I heard it had a cult of its own followers that want a third Klonoa in the series.

If you like survival horror you should give Silent Hill a try.

I'm really surprised noone has suggested Castlevania: SOTN or Oddworld.

and for adventure specifically there is Blazing Dragons and the Discworld games.

If people are mentioning RPG , then there's the granddaddy of them all , the final fantasy games. There's also Breath of fire 3 & 4 , suidoken 1 & 2.

For survival horror , there's
resident evil
Silent Hill
Clock tower
Parasite Eve 1 & 2

For strategy , there's
the deception series (still play this game from time to time)
Final fantasy tactics (great game)
Brigandine (still play this game from time to time)
Ogre tactics

For FMV games , there's
Wing Commander III & IV
Foxhunt
The x-files game
Psychic detective

I mentioned Oddworld, but none of the others. While I did get to know Broken Sword and Discworld via the PS1, I would never play them on Playstation today. Much rather have the PC version.

Now Castlevania is a game I never got to try (only tried for three minutes or so on an emulator), since I can't find the game anywhere - and to a decent price. But I heard it's supposed to be really good.

The Final Fantasy series definitely, the best that Play Station has to offer. Then there are Tombi 1 & 2, great and funny games that many seem to be unaware of. Also the Tomb Raider series, hugely despised and underrated, but actually at least the first two are great games. However, they are just as good on PC and look better.

I really don't understand, why people even bother to play Tomb Raider. I bought the first one when it has been released, but it was a huge disappointment. For example Fade to Black is much better, in my opinion... And it is for PS too.

What alternative dimension do you live in? Despised and underrated? Seriously?

I live in Finland, which probably is an alternate dimension for most of the people who visit this forum. I don't know about the rest of the world, but here Tomb Raider is pretty much a curse word for most of the people I know. Of course the games have their fans, but they are often regarded as simple people who don't know of anything better. And if we exclude Tomb Raider Legend (which got ok-reviews) it was in the previous millenium that I saw a TR-game get any praise.

Well, people have been fed up with the constant cash-ins of the Tomb Raider series, that's true. But it's still a much-loved series that always gets attention when a new one is announced. There's a huge interest in Tomb Raider Anniversary Edition (or something like that), especially after the last game got so high praise. 'Cause it did get high praise - 8+/10 is good. Also, the only other game released this side of the millennium, Angel of Darkness, is really the only series that really got bad reviews.

Maybe - but Blazing Dragons and Discworld are much easier to find for the PS then the PC.

As far as Castlevania SOTN goes, anyone with a X360 can download and play it via the LivaArcade now.

I didnt realize the original PS1 version was so collectable - especially the original (not the neongreen greatest hits version)

I noticed you mentioned Rollcage as well - that was definately a fun (overlooked) game.
