Defcon
Anyone enjoying a nuclear holocaust yet? I can't get my copy authenticated, ack, because their servers are snowed under. What were they expecting? No-one to authenticate their copies at launch?
For anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about , Defcon: Everybody Dies is a cute little strategy game from Introversion (Uplink, Darwinia) that replicates cold-war paranoia. There's no resource building - you simply deploy ships, missile silo's etc. on an abstract world map and try and nuke your opponent. The aim of the game is to kill as many enemy citizens as possible. If this all sounds a touch sick, rest assured; Defcon is as close to a meditation on the nature of war as a game will ever come. Missiles and ships move around slowly and gracefully, accompanied by a haunting soundtrack. There is no graphic violence; just grim statistics; however many million dead. Anyway, I look forward to hearing about your experiences with the game and such.

I'll be hosting a game for AGers tomorrow night (30 september), GMT 22:00 (That's UK 23.00 or EST 17.00, hopefully a time when both Europe and the US can play, if anyone's got a different suggestion please post it.)
Anyway, as I say, I'll host, going live at approx. 22.00, Server Name = Adventure Gamers Password = guybrush It'll be a thermonuclear riot! BYOB (Bring Your Own Bombs) Game mode is default, I look forward to nuking your asses.

Have been playing the demo all night and can't get enough! The game is amazing and creepy and profoundly sad and exhilerating and just plain awesome--all at the same time!!
That said, I think Europe has an advantage over every other faction. Its so compact that it makes the most effective missile shiled in the game no matter where you place your units! |

"A strange game. The only winning move is not to play."
"I've played hundred of fps shooters and probably killed well over 1.5 million enemy without even blinking in all the blood guts and gore. But theres something very disturbing that makes me cringe in Defcon when I see a little text message saying, "Hong Kong destroyed 1.5 million dead."" There's some very good quotes from Shack comments that I picked up today morning. I pre-ordered Defcon about 2 weeks ago, I just couldn't resist the very cheap pre-order offer that I could get the game cheap as soon as it's released as a download AND also a get a nice box for my shelf.

Well, it isn't that good. The gameplay mechanics are pretty weak. But, somehow, it's still very good. It's the whole atmosphere I guess.
