Final Fantasy VI
...too bad it's hard for those who got into Final Fantasy with VII to go back into the 2-D graphics. I have played most of the series and still consider VI to have the best story and characters. They should do a remake someday... |

Quest for Glory: Shadows of Darkness stands ahead of everything else for me - perfect balance of freedom and direction combined with an incredible atmosphere.

I've had so many favourites through my computer gaming life, but I think I'd ultimately have to go for 2 games:
The Pandora Directive, and Half-Life. I literally couldn't put either down until I'd finished them. And Links 2003 gets a special mention as that has taken most of my computer gaming time over the last 3 years, plus I've just released a course design for it that took 7 months and literally 1000 hours of design work.

I've come to the conclusion that it's impossible for me to pick only one favourite game ever, but there are three games that I would put on the top three spots. That is Sensible World of Soccer 96/97, Monkey Island 2 and Final Fantasy VII.
But then the list goes on and on and on. I would also put Driver and GTA3, as they both had a huge impact on me and changed my gaming preferences... at least until the next huge impact will be made. But it's safe to say, I can't pick a single game. |

Toughy.
For me it's either Ultima VII, or Neverwinter Nights, or perhaps Silent Hill 2. |

Tetris!
I have spent more time playing tetris in some form or another than any other game and it still brings me great joy. |

Ocarina's up there for pure joy. Doesn't have a sophisticated story though.
Thief is way up there, Grim Fandango of course. Half Life 2 is excellent. Myst. I'll probably get shot down, but Full Throttle is in the elite for me (not THE Elite, although someones gonna pop up and mention it. Programming miracle.) because A) It has a wonderfully unique setting B) A perfect storyline, awesome dialogue. "Can't Beat A Corley"; oh the irony. C) The best puzzle ever. You know the one. D) Virtuoso animation. E) Kick ass soundtrack. The theme is an anthem, and I really love the strange country song about "I thank the lord for the apocalypse" etc. I think it was a victim of being released before it's time. The resolution wasn't quite high enough to appreciate some of the 3D animation, and the arcadey bits which are in vogue nowadays put a lot of people off. The length was short, but nowadays it would probably be more successful. I dream of a high res version.

I think I'm going to say Curse of Monkey Island and Psychonauts. The art direction in both games is top notch and very inspiring for my own art projects. The gameplay is also very fun and I could play both games over and over.
