Default AnotherWorld aka Out of this World re-released

http://www.anotherworld.fr/anotherworld_uk/index.htm

download link is below the picture.

Sadly, I can't run the game, and if anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

I start the game and I see the title screen for Magic Productions. Some sound kicks in and it eventually fades out after 10-20 seconds. The screen stays on Magic Productions endlessly. My task manager says the game is still running but no matter what I do I can't move past the company name screen.

I've tried changing my settings with config.exe but I get the same result.

System Specs:
Pentium 4 - 3.06GHz
2.5 GB of Ram
Nvidia 6800 GT version - 6.12.0010.8421
Windows XP Home Edition (service pack 2)
DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

Any help would be hugely appreciated, I've been looking forward to playing all day, :/

I found a fix for my problem. I had to unplug my USB keyboard and use a ps/2 connection keyboard.

This game is C-L-A-S-S-I-C.

I remember the fuss it created, when it was first released.

Excellent story, state of the art animation (for 1991 that is) and a strange mixture of arcade and andventure elements.

For those that didn't play it back then, an opportunity not to be missed.

It looks good, specially the backgrouds.

The first time I played this one was one Sega Genesis and it was so different from everything I confused at the beginning, but couldnt stop playing after that. So simple. with no speech, text and a few sounds and yet such an engrossing experience.

A game in this generation that I think it has some similarities is Beyond Good and Evil.

Am I the only one that doesn't think the new enhanced background graphics does little to actually enhance the graphics? It looked perfectly fine before, and they'e completely forgotten to enhance what actually NEEDS enhancing, which is the characters.

I think they've really added more life to the backgrounds. I'm not fussy over the characters, but ti would be nice to have VGA-like-style characters.

That would kind of destroy the whole look that the game has.

Eh, I think the changes are as subtle as the changes done to the VGA version of The Secret of Monkey Island was. It's not worse, but not much better either. I don't see the point, that's all.

I bought it, and loved it, yet again. To me this remastered edition looks just right. It's prettier, but still retains the artistic style of the original.

Looking at the original today is kinda hard on the eyes, not the least because it's so blocky. Now that everything's smooth, and the backgrounds make more sense, I could look at it forever. And since I like looking at it I also enjoy replaying it much more than I would've with the original.

Now return to another earth.

That's exactly how I feel as well. Unlike the low-res original, it doesn't really look dated anymore. With a couple of exceptions, it really is a beautiful game.

Another World was in many ways the Shadow of the Colossus of the early nineties. Amazing presentation and atmosphere, but so-so gameplay. These days, the unforgiving nature of the gameplay will probably be a major problem for some gamers. I still think it's worth perserving with, because it really is an exceptional experience.

We finished it this weekend (actually, this is the first time I've finished it - I always got stuck at a certain point when I played on the Amiga), and it was great fun. I think it helped that I didn't play it alone, as I could leave the controls for someone else if I got too frustrated with a particular location.

Another World is a true classic game.

I bought it immediately when I came back to home and I finished it almost on the very day I bought it.

Such a great game, even though the gameplay might piss off a lot of people.

With this remaster I took the oportunity to finally play the game (hadn't played it back then) and wow. I can understand why people found it so mind-blowing in those times

But I didn't find it so hard as many people claim. And well, I'm not a platformer specialist Actually, I'm playing Heart of Darkness and I find it MUCH more frustrating... I almost burst out crying yesterday Had to stop playing, I didn't want to break my keyboard. At this rate I'll finish it by 2009... But I do not say it isn't good. Heck, it is. A nice challenge it is, as well.

Another World was an awesome game! It was the first 'proper' action/adventure I ever played on the mega drive back in 1991/1992. It had puzzles and those interested me a lot. Just a superb game ahead of it's time. French games makers, delphine software in particular, know where it's at, hence the wonderful flashback, then fade to black, and tons of other games, not to mention fahrenheit. I hope one day somebody does a remake of flashback. Or at least, remaster it. Conrad Hart is/was the man.

EDIT: downloaded demo and it plays smooth as butter and sounds great too.

Has anyone got to this bit yet?
http://www.visualwalkthroughs.com/an...-16-14-54-.jpg

When you jump down to the left ledge, there are two guards who approach together and are impossible to kill both. I can get one but the second kills me immediately however fast I erect shields, superblasts and zaps. Anyone managed to do it yet? I must have been brilliant or something when I was younger cos I can't see how I did it before.

IF I remember well, you have to put up a shield, crouch, shoot, then keep shooting when on the ground, restoring the shields when necessary. At least I think that's how I made it...

Yeah, I found by crouching I was able to kill one guard. Nevertheless, the very moment the first guard dies, the second one kills me in less than a trillionth of a billionth of a second! There is no time to put up any more shields after the first one dies. Talk about pixel perfect and timing perfect, they sure made them hardcore in those days.

I just did it. Didn't even need the shields. I just landed, moved myself forward a bit more before the guards arrived and just blasted them.
