So sneaking up behind an enemy in Prince of Persia and slitting their throat is fun and cheerful? Even if they are evil creatures, it's hardly the kind of in-game behaviour I'd expect a campaign like this to be promoting ...

I would at least have expected them to have the sands of time prince not the new abomination.

Well, it's at least better than the beating in the other picture...

But yes, I would have picked the Sands of Time as well...

Still...

I drink a happy colorful milkshake to that!

(Btw, has anyone heard anything about Chulip recently? It was rumored to be released on 11/15/05 (today!), but Natsume's website has no post-E3 info on the game whatsoever. )

(Oh, and you don't want to take UK: Resistance too seriously. I'm serious.)

But I thought there are already tons of 'blue sky' games out there. Oh, that's right - they're almost all in Japan.

I think happy games are a good thing ( OK, so my opinion is squat because I've never played any of the 'dark and unhappy' games).

But, everytime I see this thread I sing Irving Berlin:

Blue skies
Smiling at me
Nothing but blue skies
Do I see

I think that when I'll go home today, I'll start up a good old Sonic game and admire the blue skies (and the great gameplay).

I usually associate happy games with the Japanese. 'Blue sky' games in the U.S. tend to be more the Monkey Island variety - comedic and almost slapstick.

I'd love there to be a big Totoro adventure game (maybe 3D cel shaded), but that wouldn't exactly be pure happy happy; Miyazaki's stories usually have elements of death and tragedy lurking around in one way or another. But I'd play it anyway, precisely because of that.

I never thought I'd see UK Resistance calling for a less misogynistic portrayal of women in games. The thing I really hate about all these "dark" games is that they're not really; they seem to just be blue sky games minus an art style and emotional core (see Warrior Within versus Sands of Time.) They just end up utterly cold and confused. Give me Quest for Glory IV or Max Payne 2, now those are dark games.

i think that the blue sky in games is actually a really positive thing and that even if the game is violent, etc, it has a positive reinforcemt on the playing.

i remember the megaman games and sonic and mario and i think that was when i enjoyed games most. but one of the most enjoyable games without that many blue skies is Goldeneye 64 and that was a most enjoyable brilliant game. party on dudes.

No no, vivasawadee, Tanuksie meant games that are all about being happy, thus 'blue skies'.
