Default Sensible Soccer Is Back!

So, in a totally un-adventurous announcement I announce that Codemasters has officially announced the return of Sensible Soccer, the legendary football game that challenged the popularity of Kick Off and won! Now, before you all start yelling how Kick Off was the best amongst the two, I'll say that while I love both games almost equally, there's no question to which one got more popular.

That, and Dino Dini is looking to revolutionize the genre himself. Big words as usual from that man, but we'll see how he fares.

Sensible Soccer development will be lead by Jon Hare, the original designer of the series (and also one of the top dogs of Sensible Software back then). There are already some screens around (check ToTheGame, Eurogamer, TotalVideoGames) and Codemasters plan a easter 2006 release - in other words no more than 6 months away!

Oh, and it will have a lower price than other games on the market - reminds me of the earlier Codemasters days, when they released budget titles on a regular basis.

Microprose Soccer was the best, and once again, they should let old games rest in pieces.

Yeehaw! A new Sensible Soccer!
Here's the interview with Jon Hare.

BTW, 1. Kick Off 2. Sensible Soccer 3. Total Soccer.
I just had to say this.

Codemasters bought Sensible Software. Hence, this game is created by the right company. And as mr Kolzig said, Jon Hare basically IS Sensible Software.

GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT!

This is the first football (soccer) game in almost a decade that I'm actually looking forward to.

But I guess Konami doesn't have the same amount of money as EA to pay for these licenses...

So unfortunately Pro Evolution sucks compared to FIFA soccer.

In the real names of players department. Now if EA could buy some gameplay off FIFA then maybe you wouldn't be wasting your money.

Some people are just soooooo shallow

Fifa sells because it has the correct names rather than it being a good game.

Pro Evolution is a better and more realistic game of football.

Besides the latest version have some of the correct names and you can always import the correct names into Pro Evolution. You can't change the sucky gameplay of Fifa.

In Fifa a hard fought 1-0 win is miles better than the 99-0 scores I used to get in FIFA Games.

The only decent Fifa games I can remember are RTWC from 98 and FIFA International Soccer, back on the Sega Genesis.

I liked Sensible games because they had little people with huge heads. That, of course, could be my (at the time) child-like misinterpretation of the bird's-eye view. Anyway, I hope they continue in that tradition.

And in any case, figuring out who players (and the English teams) are supposed to be is half the fun!

Wearside indeed.

My only disappointment is that they use dull team names ("Merseyside Reds", etc) and not pisstake names, like Liverpond or Evertoon or something. Stick it to the FA/EA man, and see how Rooney likes appearing in the game as "Shrek".

You do sound quite surprisingly shallow with that comment, Erwin.

Check out the screenshots on www.tothegame.com, and you'll be happy to learn that they have.

Cool. If they hadn't, it just would not have been...sensible. Btw, is wouldn't've a proper contraction? More importantly, is the way I used those two verb tenses grammatically accurate?

I'm pretty sure "wouldn't've" is wrong. But "wouldn't have been" is legal.

Sorry guys, but I can't take a game seriously when it uses weird cartoon character names for players. (Not to mention the horrible commentary, and the corny intro with the weird voice saying "Pro Evolution Soccer 4". Yes, I can read. Thank you very much.)

I own both Fifa 2004 (on PC) and PES4 (on PS2). I fairly admit that PES plays a little better, but not so much that I'm having problems with FIFA's gameplay. The menu structure and the icons in FIFA are much better, on the other hand. For example, I still don't know what all those coloured arrows mean (good or bad?) next to the player stats in PES.

And AJ, since I have developed my *own* preferences, taste and opinions, *I'll* be the judge of what's a waste of my money or not, thank you very much.
