Dungeon Siege II

I downloaded the almost 2 GB demo, thats right almost 2 gig. And I must say that this is a very fine sequel to the original Dungeon Siege, great story, great character interaction and pretty cool powerups and the graphics are superb. :)

Thoughts?

I hated http://members.optushome.com.au/crun...ilies/blah.gif the first one. I gave it so many tries but each attempt I was so bored by the time I'd opened the back gate for the first town.
I did download the DS2 demo http://members.optushome.com.au/crun...s/lg_melon.gif but I haven't played it for more than 20 minutes, it struck me as nearly identical to the first one in play style, just fancier graphics and movies with a few conversations tacked on.

Neither struck me as diablo http://members.optushome.com.au/crun...milies/fun.gif killer. If I could work out how to map all my skills individually to direct keys, as I can in D2, then I might enjoy the game more.
If I'm going to play a hack and slasher http://members.optushome.com.au/crun...s/lg_force.gifI prefer more tangible control of my character(s) rather than just pointing them towards mobs and letting the AI control my character.

If you enjoyed the 'pet' aspect of DS2 you might like to try Fate.

I dislike this kind of clic-clic-clicclicclicclicclic-monster-dead games.
I've played some of the first Dungeon Siege while doing an (exhausting ;) ) intership at Microsoft, and I was completely not impressed. Given the hype that the game got back then, I was really mesmerize that all there was to the gameplay was this clic feast. But then again, the same goes for Diablo. :)

Actually DS is not a clic-fest, it's a click-once-then-enjoy-the-scenery fest :D

The scenery was quite nice and yoiu could do a fair amount with the camera to look at it.

I also liked the idea of improving skills by constant use. Instead of starting off as a wizard/fighter/whatever you became that character type by the skills you used most (and your equipment choices were limited as a result)

It's a pity the whole thing didn't involve much more in the way of strategy than click and try not to get mobbed without a variety of skills available.

The real killer for me was its astonishing linearity though. How believable is a world where you can only walk a single path in either direction? Complete contrast to Baldur's Gate where you could wander freely. Sure, moving off the story path could easily get you killed but I demand the right to get myself killed! :D

I'm still trying to sell my copy for 10 €, damn, I wish I had at least bought the USA version, not the UK one.
