Still Life Review - Beating a dead Horse

What does it take to include system requirements in game reviews? I've been begging for this for ages.

Read here for Marek's viewpoint:

(Though his opinion might have changed now...)

This is just a guess, but one reason might be that it's so friggin' hard to GET definite system requirements. In any case, I'll move your request to Site Feedback.

As for Still Life, as usual, TAC has conflicting information.

From TAC's website:

Windows® 98, ME, 2000 or XP
Pentium® III 750 MHz (Pentium® III 1.2 GHz Recommended)
128 MB RAM
8x CD ROM Drive
DirectX8.1
32 MB Graphics Card (64 MB or Equivalent Recommended)
Keyboard /Mouse/Speakers

Listed on my Still Life box:

Minimum
Win 98/ME/2000/XP
800 MHz Pentium III or equivalent
128 MB RAM
16X speed CD-ROM
600 MB hard drive space free
32MB DirectX 8.1b Video card with hardware transform & lighting support (nvidia Geforce2 or better)
DirectX 8.1b compatible sound card or better
keyboard & mouse
directX 8.1b or higher

Recommended
WinXP
1.0 GHz Pentium III or equivalent
256 MB RAM
24X speed CD-ROM
1.2 GB hard drive space available
128 MB DirectX 9 Video Card (Nvidia GeForce or ATI Radeon)
DirectX 8.1b compatible sound card or better
Keyboard & mouse
DirectX 9 or higher

Hope that helps.

ps Thanks for the link, Dale.

Odd... I was about to say that my review in The Inventory should have the requirements, but I double checked...and nope. I know that The Inventory used to provide the requirements, and I always send the requirements as a part of my review to the editor. I guess there's not enough demand overall? I dunno. I'm not the editor. I send him what I can, and he does the rest. Anyway, here are the requirements:

System Requirements:

Windows 98, ME, 2000, or XP
Pentium III 800 MHz (Pentium III 1.2 GHz recommended)
128 MB RAM
16x CD-ROM drive
600 MB free HD space
DirectX8.1b or higher
32 MB graphics card (64 MB or equivalent recommended)
Keyboard/mouse/speakers

The real problem with listing them is as Fov says..

But sure -- it is worth trying to figure out a better way to get that info out there, particularly with the newer games releasing with higher systems demands. Looked at 2404's presentation and it occurred to me we could list them in the data base for the games. Perhaps in the comments section. :)

That's probably true.

But, for the codgers that were raised on Sierra's Iceman on 5,25" disks, system requirements has always been a big deal

Per the thread on Adventures, I'm looking for basic system requirements that will continue to support my business, but will allow me to play a game or two when I'm not playing a jigsaw puzzle on the Shockwave site.

When reviews don't give system requirements, people looking to upgrade to play the reviewed games, have nothing on which they can base a purchase decision. That's why I think it is important.
