Server down

Any ideas why the server was down for 5 hours this morning?

Are you sure it wasn't a local routing or DNS issue? I didn't get so much as a single sms message from The Planet's monitoring services.

Dale Baldwin 03-31-2005 08:38 AM

I know it wasn't working for me either.

remixor 03-31-2005 08:56 AM

I can say the same for both me and Jake.

tabacco 03-31-2005 09:06 AM

What was the timespan of the outage?

fov 03-31-2005 09:07 AM

Based on the gap in posts on this thread, looks like about 2:00 am to 7:00 am (Pacific).

Yeah that seems consistent with me eventually giving up reloading the page. :shifty:

Oh, Thumbs was down too (which is probably obvious).

Ever heard of this thing called "sleep"? :D

(I miss college. :frown: )

remixor 03-31-2005 09:22 AM

???

fov 03-31-2005 09:26 AM

I just thought it was funny you were up between 2:00 and 7:00.

Ignore me. Nyquil has poisoned my soul. :(

Yup, from a little before 5am Eastern to about 10am. I noticed that Idle Thumbs was down the same hours.

Weird. Must have been something big. The Planet's monitoring services usually send me a whole flood of SMS messages when there're server issues. Whatever this was, it must have taken their monitoring servers down too. Backbone issue, maybe?

Fairygdmther 04-01-2005 02:38 AM

Well, I only brought it up because it seemed like a long time to be down. And everywhere else worked fine except here and thumbs. Shrug...

When I tried accessing AG and Thumb yesterday, MSN and another site were down too. Might have been a coincidence, might have been a backbone thing.

Erwin_Br 04-01-2005 04:40 AM

Maybe it's an omen? I hope not.

Nah, definitely an omen.

Ninth 04-01-2005 04:53 AM

I had a problem too, yesterday. (I guess my yesterday is your morning... which time is it in the US?)

No, it's just a butterfly.

My guess would be that it was something that removed our server and the monitoring server from the internet without actually taking either offline.
