Guys, I think the true purpose of this particular thread has been served, so no need to wander off any further than we already have. Let's get back on topic if anyone has any more questions about avatar picture sizes or anything technically related. Thanks.

I think everyone is getting way too carried away on this issue. I can't help but shrug off fears that 'the fun is being taken away'. I'm pretty sure the same was said in a similar discussion in like 2001, and the community still exists and is still just as fun to the vast majority of users.
I also think too much importance is given to the fact that it's about sexually tinted posts. If it's just innuendo and nothing too explicit, who cares? As far as I'm concerned, the real issue is the disturbance of on-topic discussion. A sub-issue is also some people being a bit tired of the "dirty mind" repartee. Myself included, to be honest. There's nothing wrong with a few off-topic posts. I agree they give color to the community. But the off-topic posts we're talking about here are a bit different in that they often devolve into a battle of wits or just a long string of off-topic replies. That's the sort of mindless thing that Chit Chat is meant for. Deadworm, you as a veteran member of this forum might have different wants and needs than newer members who aren't yet tired of discussing adventure games. The solution to that is very simple, and I don't really see what the kefuffle is all about. I think you're overreacting, or maybe you're being oversensitive because this peripherally involves sexuality or gayness? I'd say just leave it and go on posting as usual, with only slightly less offtopic-ness here and more of it in Chit Chat. The problem (if there is one at all) will be instantly solved. Edit: also, what Trep said. |

The Thread™ will die.

With an almight wrench, I will drag this topic back...um...on-topic (having deleted a post which made a comment that Marek put much more succinctly).
Profile picture sizes. I'd happily agree that they're not particularly large. I also wonder, though, how useful they are to people - I'm not sure that I myself ever check them - and you can always upload an image elsewhere and then put a link to it in your signature or something . |

They may be useful to someone who at least wants others to have a face to go with the posts. I personally have forgotten that this option is available to me, so I don't have a mug of myself up . Usually we just stick our likenesses up as our avatars and leave it at that.

I actually think it harms the adventure "community" to isolate its members like that. Honestly, the biggest community I see here, are Wormsie, Trep, Mattsie, Gilly, Erwin, Kolzig, Ninja Dodo, and a few others and of course you guys... People who regularly stay here no matter what and how boring discussions in the forums are. I also got tired of the countless what are the best X adventure games out there. Thanks to Trep and Wormsie, I'm sticking around here, coz I really care for them as pals. And the reason why I care is coz I know a lot more about themthan just being two lifeless thread posters saying: MI2 is the best game ever. Isn't that what community is about? Or would you rather people just get bored, turn their face and head the other way. Maybe they do over do it sometime, but almost everyone gets off topic at one point or the other.

By the way this is an excerpt from a thread in the idle forums. Just to show you how everyone gets offtopic.
Holiday cash=Console for me. Do I buy a PS2 now or wait for PS3 (hoping it's backwards compatable) and get a Game Cube? The PS2 has awesome RPG goodness, but the PS3 is due in fall and will play PS2 games. Besides, the Cube has fun two player games that my girl friend would play. What do I do? -Fuzz And after 2 pages of postings Katamari Damacy is the wierdest game I've even played.

And as has been said about 20 times in some form or another, Chit Chat is THERE for just such carefree conversations. You think parents are anti-childhood if they tell kids to run outside and not in the living room? Not so different here. Just saying to occasionally take the romping outside when others are trying to talk. BTW, sexuality in adventure games would be a great topic. In Adventure. |

This thread is KINDA hilarious, in a certain way, when you think about it. No, you don't even need to think about it... I should have made it clear from the start when Marek told us to stop it, I decided to do so. I was more interested in the exact background of this whole thing, and my point wasn't that "we should be able to do whatever we want wherever we want". I think I also found at least some indication that Adventure -threads are not taken off topic, but none of you seem to believe it, so there's no point for me to try to talk about it anymore. "The problem is there but is grossly exaggerated" was my point, mainly. And hey, even I find some of the sex talk annoying, but only at Idle Thumbs, because you never know when Yufster decides to ruin the whole thing...

I can't believe this whole thing...
I can't even think of something coherent to write, because I really don't see how anyone could be offended and annoyed enough by the sex talk to make it an issue.

We should all compare profile picture sizes.

I didn't want to post anything earlier, because my good looks could flare up even more s** related comments, but i think profile pictures are fine the way they are. This isn't beauty competition forum, so we don't need larger images eating precioussssss bandwidth.

Size does matter, after all.
Then, why do we have profile pictures at all? The avatar alone would be fine then, isn't it?

Well, I'm probably one of the few people here who stray away from the thread topic a bit too much. But, then again, I wouldn't like the forums too become too "sterile" if you know what I mean. And, I can't shake the thought that this off-topic stuff emerged right when the sexuality jokes became a bit more frequent in posting. And not before... (I know I probably made like a hundred off-topic posts, so sue me).
Anyway, how do I even put a profile pic?
