Default The X-Files Game Review

Awesome. Thanks Claire. I pretty much agree with everything you've said in the review.

The developer is Hyperbole Studios and the publisher is Fox Interactive.

Great review, Claire!
I haven't played The X-Files Game, but your review really made me consider buying the game (if I'll find it anywhere).

Looking at the screenshots, I get an overwhelming urge to play it again.

Too bad I can't get it to work on this modern-day machine, though

And yes, great review!

That was a really cool game. It got too scary for me at the end, though. And now I can't find it anywhere...

It's worth it. This review was my most anticipated review.

I wonder if Clair noticed (and turned on) the option of moving backgrounds. In the review she mentions photographic STILLS a few times, but many backgrounds in the X Files game are moving. Rippling water, swinging trees, you name it. By default, this option is turned off.

It requires quite a lot of your PC though. (At least, back then it did)

Yes, I did manage to turn on the moving backgrounds This is what I meant when I said, 'supplemented by additional animation'. I'm glad you guys all enjoyed the review

Really? I ran it recently on XP without any problems. Only tweaking I had to do was to uninstall the Quicktime I had on my machine and install the one that came with the game.

I liked this game a lot... off to read the review!

Well, the intro works and even the menu, but when I start playing the game it will quit without any warning back to Windows.

I'm using Windows 2000 instead of XP, but that shouldn't be a big difference.

That is (essentially) the problem I had, replacing the newer Quicktime with the older one fixed it.

I also had it in compatibility mode (I think), which can be done in Win2K but's trickier than in XP.

I had crackling sound in Windows XP, but that's it. My new XP computer doesn't do that though.

Quicktime is weird. Backwards compatibility is non-existent, but interestingly the new and the old version of the program can happily co-exist. The only annoying thing is that old versions of quicktime are almost impossible to find. I have a version I plucked off a Computer Arts CD online if anyone needs it.

Obviously you wouldn't need it if you own the game, but it has been known to crop up in other situations.

btw I agree... good review. Haven't played the game myself, but it sounds good.

It asks if you want to install it during the installation. Hopefully it will work.
