Default Linking peeve

When I push the hyperlink button, I'm presented with a dialog box that already has a partial fill of "http://".

But see, anyone who has selected and copied a URL to the clipboard, we already have that prefix. If we simply paste, we get a URL that starts with "http://http://the.rest.of.the.URL.com".

So we've become accustom to extra keystrokes, <home><shift><end> then a paste of the complete URL from the clipboard to overwrite the supplied prefix.

Please, just leave the field completely empty.

Hm, with Opera the "http://" prefix is already selected, so when you paste it's being overwritten.

Same with Firefox.

I think it really needs to be there as there are some people who will just type a website address (starting with the www and hence not working if the http:// part was missing) I don't find it a huge inconvenience to select it manually (with a sweep of the mouse) before pasting a URL and by the sounds of it IE is the problem for not doing that itself.

Actually, if you don't put the http:// bit, it's automagically added by the forum software.

For instance, if you have: CLICK ME, what the forum generates is: CLICK ME, which includes the http:// part and therefore works perfectly well.

So there's really no reason for the dialog box to already be pre-filled. Though, as kuze said, it's mostly not a problem since it's already pre-selected, but I remember that there were a few occasions when I accidentally unselected it, and that made me lose at least half a second – which I guess I can live with.

I was looking at Phantasmagoria and I pressed on a link below that shows what other people bought, I pressed on it and it comes up with 'We're sorry. The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site', and has another link button for Amazon.

I fixed the Amazon link for Phantasmagoria. The code thing had changed.
