Quick question,
What is the netiquite for the comments feature. Is it solely for commenting on the aticles and what should you do if you are wanting to comment on something another commenter said. It could develop into a discussion which is more useful on the forum. Should we jsut make general comments on the articles etc, but if we want a more discussion we should start a forum thread on the article.

Why do you have that many tabs open. Shirley you can't read them all at once. Wouldn't it make more sense to bookmark them all and go to them when you need to. Wasting bandwidth

1) Each poster's first comment should include some observations on the article in question. Jumping in simply for the purpose of responding to another comment is pretty bad form. 2) Once a person submits a first comment (or within the same first post), I think responding once to another comment is fair game. More than that becomes an ongoing dialogue, and that probably is best directed to the forums. 3) If you're posting something for the purpose of seeking a response from someone else (other than the article writer or AG staff, I mean), that should probably be taken to the forums. |

Or if it's something that may be of interest to people other than the article writer or AG staff. People are not likely to check the articles for new comments.

I wouldn't really agree with that. Far more people read the articles than ever visit the forums, and if the comments are interesting, I see no reason why people won't check for comment updates. In fact, we even have Latest Comments link on the home page now.

That's because the articles are more worth reading than posts by Swedish music teachers and other random incoherent people. I doubt moving the comments to the article pages will make them more interesting.
But I'm often wrong, so I may be so now too. Maybe the new commenting ability will attract another crowd.

Along with forum regulars, we would like to hear from those who visit the main site but don't necessarily feel comfortable posting in the forums. We're hoping the comment system gives them a nice place to let us know what they think.

Because if I close them, I forget about them. Most of them I check daily, some of them are ones that I left there as a reminder that I want to read them and then close them (sometimes, after having those open for a time, I just bookmark them in the hope of remembering that I wanted to read them, and then close them. I usually forget about those, then, so that's why I do keep them open, you see.). So yeah, it wouldn't work with the bookmarks for me. -

That browser has far too many tabs. I barely ever get above four or five .

It's only half the screen! I never fill up more than half the screen with tabs. Also, I am working hard on reducing the number of tabs at all times. -

Every time you don't post a comment, God kills a kitten.
So that's a lot of kittens. Think about it. |

I'll make sure they're spayed or neutered, so no worries in that department.

That would be because it's Wasabi. Very stinging smell in the nose, though not unpleasant. Also, if you eat too much (read: More than what fits on the tip of a knife blade), it will cauterise your nasal cavity. Quote:
Ah, as long as it's just kittens and not Zombies, I'm fine. But alright, I like the comments feature. I generally like commenting on stuff, and the easier it is, the better. -

Wasabi is the most utterly foul substance ever labeled as a consumer product.
In other news, I think I got the first comment in on the entire site, on Marek's comment ability announcment blog post. It never showed up, though, what's up with that?

Maybe it didn't pass approval? I remember one of the first comments just mentioned something about the HoM, which that post wasn't really about. Don't know if that was yours, though.
