Default What do Yahoo! Slurp Spiders actually do?

Viewing the " Who's Online" page I noitice that the list often seems to be filled with Yahoo! Slurp Spiders.

I could probably hazard a reasonable guess but does anyone know what these programs actually do on the site?

I did try Wikipedia but "Yahoo! Slurp Spider" didn't turn up anything when I used it as a search term. Once again it comes down to knowing the right term to search for.

Cheers for that Kurufinwe. A bit more detailed than I was originally after but fascinating stuff nonetheless.

I wouldn't know, I haven't read it. It just was linked to in one of the many threads about those spiders on the forums.
