Default Why no Monkey Island One or Two?

Hi.

I'm curious as to why this site contains no review of either Monkey Island One or Two. They are two of the most popular and influential Adventure Games ever created, so why have they been so neglected by 'Adventure Gamers' reviewers?

Because we're a bunch of cold, unfeeling corporate bastards who only care about the latest and greatest? Or maybe we just haven't gotten 'round to it yet.

You could just check out Just Adventure's magnificent MI1 and MI2 reviews.

This is the first time I read these review and really I cried Please AG, do the reviews of MI and MI2 as soon as possible. Now what I really find quite interesting and which shows the consistency of, in simple word, horrendous reviews, is that MI1 gets the grade C while MI2 gets C+, making MI2 better. Now I agree that different reviewers have different preferences but at least the reviews editor or whoever runs the site could have omitted this sentence from their MI2 review, just for the sake of consistency:

This game as whole is a decent package, but it can't even hold a candle to the brilliance of Monkey Island 1.
Hats off!

What's interesting about reviews of classic games is that 80% of the readers are already familiar with the them and expect a certain score. I have a feeling that when AG posts MI1 and 2 reviews in the future everyone will just check out the score to make sure it is not offensively low and then not even read it. I still don't see the point of reviewing something that has such a broad concensus already, but if there's really a demand I guess AG should do it.

Of course, it's totally up to Jack these days, not me.

P.S. The JA reviewer was comparing it to Monkey Island 1. The Secret of Money Island is probably a very different game! (Yeah yeah, cheap shot )

I'm certainly not avoiding them for any reason, but exactly, it just never seems like a priority to review games that pretty much everyone already has their own opinion about.

That said, no review list is complete without them, so it'll happen at some point.

It should be done for the sake of new gamers, let's say someone finds Dreamfall fantastic, plays similar games, then learns about Monkey Island series, searches for the reviews of MI1 and MI2 and guess finds what? TADA! May be far fetched, but not a good scenario

Okay, but what I'm hearing in this thread is "You should review MI1 and MI2 and you better give them good scores when you do." That alone keeps me from wanting to be the poor sap stuck with the assignment.

(I played MI1 a few years ago... thought it was a decent game, though I'm not sure what I'd rate it. I enjoyed it, but it's not like it screamed five stars at me the whole time I was playing it. I haven't played MI2 yet.)

IMHO the MI games are good, but often overrated.

HERETIC!!!!
(burn-burn-burn)

Besides, one doesn't need to "review" Monkey 1 & 2. One could prepare a nice feature article...

Isn't trying to review Monkey Island a bit like trying to review, say, King's Quest V? Loads of people think that it's one of the best games ever, but a significant number think that it's vastly overrated and/or terrible...

Funny, I have no qualms about reviewing the KQs. Maybe because there aren't as many rabid Sierra fans here as rabid LucasArts fans (I mean that in the nicest way possible ), or maybe because I am much more familiar with the games.

I'm sure some people will disagree with the score I give to KQ5 (when I get around to it ), but for some reason that doesn't seem as intimidating as writing a Monkey Island review.
