There's a nice plug, and well deserved too. Can't wait to read the articles (as long as they're not direct-control 3D ) and open the presents!

Well, I call my guitar amplifier a 'thumperdinck', but it's still a guitar amp, now isn't it?

Correct. I think people will find the interview quite interesting. Ernest Adams does not design adventure games himself, so he's not promoting a specific game he's making. He just talks about a genre he personally likes a lot.

All of this sounds great!

It's refreshing to see how much effort this community puts into trying to revitalize this genre and how much you guys truly care about these games.

Although, I've got to ask. Is there any chance of a top 20 this year? Just a mini one .

No. There's hopefully a chance of the Top 20 from last year actually returning to the site, though...

I expect to do a new Top 20 in 2005. If I wrote a new one every year, there wouldn't be that much change in the rankings and it wouldn't be as interesting. Given three years, and the chance to play all the games again and consider games released in that timeframe, the Top 20 will almost certainly be very different and interesting even to those who read the first one.

It definitely wets MY appetite! PLUS I am in the happy position of having a little more spare time at hands next week to be able to read AND get into discussion. A great idea at a perfect time of the year. Thanks (in advance), Marek and Co.

Me too, doughy meg! My work shuts down for a week encompassing Xmas and NY's, so I'll be here the whole time arguing with everyone (as usual).

I won't. I'll be far too busy rushing backwards and forwards between Germany and England visiting family, which is why I guess Doughy Megs (nice name ) will be in the happy ( ) position of having more spare time.

I'll still try to read it and keep up though on the incredibly slow internet connection at my parents'. Otherwise I'll have to do so when I get back to Germany.

If I'm wanted back in Germany...........

For some reason, there is a whole field of AI called believable agents that does not seem to be explored in mainstream games (with the exception of Outcast). This deals with the application of AI for interactive story telling.

If you want to learn more check out:

There are more papers/theses to read if anyone is interested.
