Can I sell/buy/trade games on the forums?
Yes, it is allowed to sell, buy or trade legal copies of games. However, Adventure Gamers is not responsible for trades or purchases gone bad. It's your responsibility to work out the terms of the trade or sale. Threads started for this purpose should be posted in Chit Chat.

Can I advertise my adventure game site or adventure game on the forums?
Simply put, we allow promotional messages as long as they are not annoying. You can let our community know of your website or amateur adventure game if you don't use too much promotional language or hyperbole. If you want to promote a commercial adventure game on our forums, we ask that you get in touch with the staff beforehand. If you wish to link directly to content on another adventure game website, you are welcome to do so, but we request that you use the opportunity to generate an actual discussion on this forum. Quote a section of the article at hand, summarize, make a point of your own, etc. The link should be an optional element of your thread, with the discussion based on it but existing independently of it. People come to these forums for discussion, not advertising links. And please do not simply cut and paste the same post here that you do on all the other forums. Adventure-related or not, that's just spam to benefit your website.

Have fun!
Most importantly: enjoy the debates and discussions. Always apply common sense, and do your best to lead by example in creating a civil environment of fun, friendship and learning.

Am I allowed to post magazine scans on the forums?
You can post scans of really old magazines, but not of recent issues. Magazines generally don't like it when scans of their copyrighted material are posted on the internet.

Focus of this community
This forum is dedicated to adventure games of all kinds, from commercial graphic adventures to freeware amateur text adventures. Along with our main Adventure discussion forum, we have a separate forum for independent Underground games, and another specifically for game-related Hints and Technical Problems. If you want to talk all-things-adventure, this is the place to be! But as most gamers are not exclusively devoted to one genre, we also have an alternate General forum for non-adventure discussions, and offer a Chit Chat forum for any topics not related to games at all.

What's not OK to post?
You are solely responsible for everything you submit to the Adventure Gamers forums. We retain the right to delete any messages or threads deemed inappropriate (e.g. flames, spam). We have a zero tolerance policy on pirated software. Any messages soliciting or promoting warez will be immediately deleted and posting priveledges will be revoked. We also kindly request that you do not post links to so-called 'abandonware'. Although we sympathize with the preservation of games that have gone out of print, we choose not to tread any murky legal ground. Spam, viral marketing or seeding are not welcomed on our forums. These kinds of messages will be deleted, and their posters will be immediately banned without notice.

Keep threads organized
If you're thinking of starting a new topic, you are encouraged to use the Search feature to check if there's an existing thread on that topic already. Some threads may be too old to bother reviving, so use your judgment in deciding when to reply to an existing thread, and when it may be better to start a new thread. When creating a new thread, use descriptive subject lines for easy identification, and be sure to post it in the appropriate forum. If you are unsure where your thread belongs, go ahead and post it and our moderators will move it if necessary. The forum generates a large amount of traffic, so some threads may naturally wander off the original topic over time. However, we ask that you do not intentionally derail a topic still being actively discussed. If making an off-topic remark, consider how to return the topic to its original focus. If responding to off-topic remarks with more off-topic remarks, you're probably making the matter worse.

How do I report posts that are inflammatory, slanderous, or violate your forum rules?
There is a "report this post" link at the bottom of every post. You can use it to draw the moderators' attention to a particular post. (No one but the moderators will know that you reported it.)

Respect each other
People of widely varying nationalities, ages and educational levels visit this forum. Participants are expected to treat each other with dignity and respect. Passionate, even heated debate is welcome but messages which descend to personal insults, name-calling or other abuse will be deleted. Participants who routinely abuse other members will be warned. Failure to change behavior will result in loss of posting privileges.

While we don't censor swearing, we do ask that you show self-control in your use of language. Gratuitous cursing is offensive to many and an abuse of the freedom provided on the forums.

Chit Chat has a more casual atmosphere than the other forums, and posts are not counted towards your post count as a means to discourage spam and "post count races". As a catch-all forum for anything unrelated to games, Chit Chat has very few topical restrictions, but people should still display basic forum courtesy. Religion, politics, and other hot button issues are permitted, but be aware of the tendency of such topics to escalate into inappropriate personal arguments. Sexual content or topics that are otherwise "adult" in nature are certainly allowed, but again we request a degree of maturity in dealing with them, avoiding needlessly explicit detail or derailing threads with off-topic remarks. And while we absolutely encourage topics that promote familiarity and camaraderie with your fellow forumites, keep in mind that it's a discussion board, not a surrogate chat room or personal web space for daily updates. An off-topic forum does not mean "no topic", and if you wish to have extended personal conversations with particular individuals, our Private Messaging feature is available to all.

There are no hard and fast rules for what's acceptable in these areas, of course. We simply ask that you show some discretion and consideration for others.
