Default Interpol - Antics

I *love* this record, listening to it right now. I've seen the band twice in the past 3 months, and they are as tight as a clam's ass live. Any other fans here?

Good album..good band. If you like them look into a band called Editors. I don't know when they're first album, The Back Room, is out but I think it's soon.

Interpol is one of the few bands that I just can't get into. I wish I could, because everyone else does seem to love them.

Turn on the Bright Lights isn't as good a record as Antics, it's closer to a Television album, but is still well worth having. Editors are ok, haven't really got into them yet, but I give it time.

Television? They wish, they don't have half of Verlaine's technique

Interpol really stepped out of the Joy Division/Television shadow with Antics and have their own sound now, which is why its such an important record for them.

It's funny to see the love for Antics here. Most places I've been piss on it but not the other one. I like both but recognize they're two different bands(almost). There's a nice re-recorded version of Song Seven on the Evil EP. The original version had an annoying rap and sounded like it was recorded in a garage. I think it was on the Precipate EP.

That Editors album is out but only in the UK. The 2CD version has some b-sides on it, so that's the one to get.

I've heard the band Engineers mentioned in relation to the the whole Interpol/Editors sound so I'll look into them, too.

Hardly, they've none of the camp or swagger of the smiths (listened to the queen is dead on the way to work, still fabulous after all these years)

Park the car at the side of the rooooooad
You should know
Time's tide will smother you
And I will toooooooo

When you laugh about people
Who feel so very lonely, their only desire is to die
But I'm afraid
It doesn't make me smile

I wish I could laaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuughhhhhhhhhhhhh

But that joke isn't funny anymore
It's too close to home and it's too near the bone
Too close to home and too near the bone
More than you'll ever knoooooooooow...

Morrissey is the best lyricist of all time!

How Soon is Now?

I am the son
and the heir
of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and heir
of nothing in particular

You shut your mouth
how can you say
I go about things the wrong way
I am human and I need to be loved
just like everybody else does

I am the son
and the heir
of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and the heir
of nothing in particular

You shut your mouth
how can you say
I go about things the wrong way
I am human and I need to be loved
just like everybody else does

There's a club if you'd like to go
you could meet somebody who really loves you
so you go, and you stand on your own
and you leave on your own
and you go home, and you cry
and you want to die

When you say it's gonna happen "now"
well, when exactly do you mean?
see I've already waited too long
and all my hope is gone

You shut your mouth
how can you say
I go about things the wrong way
I am human and I need to be loved
just like everybody else does

Morrisey and The Smiths make my toes curl. Sorry. Hammerite's right about the lyrics. Truly of their time, and they can stay there...

Of their time? What in particular is reminiscent of the 1980s in the above lines, or indeed any of the Smiths lyrics? They're hardly subject to economic depression, communism or AIDS, as far as I can see.
