Normally its just my dad and I that watch movies together. Unless its a family movie then my step-mom and 5 brothers and sisters watch them. I also see a lot of movies at the theatre with my friend, because my dad doesn't like paying for tickets. We did go see Borat, Cars and Over The Hedge. We took everyone to the last two though. Only my step-mom, dad, and my oldest sister saw Borat.

Bad Influence

That scene impressed me more than any other in that particular film simply because when one is in a situation like that, time really does seem to go into slow motion. That scene was so utterly realistic and well-constructed (the drug dealer coked out of his gourd and babbling incessantly, the boy-toy in his own little world playing with firecrackers and raising everyone's tension level), it actually triggered the only anxiety attack I've ever had the first time I watched it.

I get bored if it's just me watching a movie. I enjoy creating a running commentary with someone. This can sometimes make even bad movies a fun time, when you have company to mock them with.

One of my favorite late '80's slasher films. I loved the combination of quirky, '80's style humor, and "The Big Chill"/"St. Elmo's Fire" meets "Friday the 13th" vibe to the movie. Although it was weird, years later, to see "Cry Wolf" rip off its plot so blatantly.

Just saw The Big Lebowski, and very much enjoyed it, although it isnt' my favorite Coen Brothers having seen it. I really like how it encapsulates that '90s slacker mentality (though in an older generation, which is very interesting).

I forget if I've posted this before, but I recently saw 2001 Maniacs, starring Robert Englund. Sick, sick movie. Also, started to watch Ladder 49, but got bored and turned it off.

The Prestige
An Adaption of a Christopher Priest novel about obsession and revenge between 2 rival magicians in Victorian England. Superbly acted by most of the cast (Scarlett Johannson was naff *Shame*) Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale are excellent as the 2 magicians, Michael Caine superb as the mentor to Hugh's character and David Bowie makes a strange appearance (Did anyone else keep thinking "He looks just like Ricky Gervais") Directed by one of the better directors around at the moment I really enjoyed the movie and love what he was trying to do. It's well acted, moody, plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. HOWEVER The movie is supposed to be the ultimate magic trick (the set-up, the performance and the effect, or prestige) to mirror the tricks in the movie. Set the audience up with the ending, show them how you got to there and then *poof* revel the big surprise to shock the audience. Problem was I had figured it all out way before the end which kind of dulled the effect. Enjoyable film, but maybe not a classic.

Pans Labyrinth *note - Spanish language film.
It's Spain 1944 and the Fascists have won the Civil War with only small pockets of resistance in the mountains. Into these mountains comes a little girl Ofelia and her pregnant mother (recently married to the fascist captain of the area) reading a bunch of fairy tale books. A meeting with a fairy takes her to a Labyrinth where a faun tells her she is a princess of the underworld and has to complete 3 tasks to return to her father the king. Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy, Devils Backbone) has woven a mesmerizing film that is part war movie and part fantasy (Reminded me of Mirrormask with echoes of Alice in Wonderland and Wizard of Oz to name a few influences). Reality and fantasy collide in what is defiantly not a kids movie. There are some real world scenes of torture and violence mingled with some fantastic monsters (the creature with the eyes in his hands for instance) Superbly acted by all involved but especially the little girl and the Fascist captain (What a bastard he is). Is it all Reality or Fantasy? make up your own mind in what is IMO one of the best films of the year. A Gothic Masterpiece.

The Prestige - Oscar material, one of the nicest films I've seen of late. A twist you never see coming.

Are you on crack? They damn near tell you what the twist is going to be in advance. How could you possibly be surprised?

Wouldn't have put it quite so condescendingly, but like I said above ,I saw the "twist" coming long before the end.

Yep. Add me to the list of Prestige viewers how got the twist long before the end. Remember the character whose face they never show? That only made it easier for sure...
