Default Sex and Film *WARNING - 18+ thread*

Always combined.

Anyhow, I recently NEARLY bought the movie 9 Songs. I'm intrigued by it. A kind of hardcore pr0n film which isn't - depicting realistic sex in a realistically realised relationship - although I heard some of the ad-libbing is pretty atrocious. Michael Winterbottom sought to explore a couples intimacy through the relationship - apparently it didn't QUITE work. The film itself is supposed to chug a little when they start talking, suprise suprise, but it also features live gigs by a host of up-and-coming and established bands, such as Franz Ferdinand, The Super Furry Animals and Primal Scream, as the relationship centres around their hooking up at gigs a they get to know eachother.

... I just COULDN'T buy it. Even to watch solo. Perhaps I'm too British, but the intimacy of the film - which depicts actual intercourse, oral sex, a money-shot and penetration - kind of disturbs me. I don't know why. I understand what Winterbottom was trying to do... but I just don't think I could sit through it.

Other films that I've seen in this mode include Sexo y Lucia - a beautifully shot movie which explores the aftermath of a destructive relationship starring Paz Vega yet features strong sexual scenes. The rest of the film, including the hallucinogenic beach scenes, is very well done and the sex is also used to explore the relationship. I've also seen Y Tu Mama Tambien, as some people claim it's one of the best foreign films of recent years and made the career of the effortlessly cool Gael Garcia Bernal. It's a film that uses sex as an exploration of the characters relationships and mental state.

Then there's also In The Cut, starring Meg Ryan, which is more of a thriller but depicts sex in a realistic manner, and Swimming Pool, which uses sex and sexuality as a release for pent-up Charlotte Rampling's repressed author.

What are peoples thoughts about movies that use sex as a basis? It's becoming more and more recurrent, with movies like Baise Moi, Irreversible and so on seemingly coming out in a steady stream. I don't mind sex as a basis for a film, personally, although 9 Songs seems to cross a line I'm not sure I'm interested in.

I'm sitting on the fence though to see what you guys think. And do hurry up, it's spiky and poking through my trousers.

Keep a reign in on things though.

Basic instincts, I guess. Mommy, what's a money-shot?

I just didn't see the point of the movie.

Two people meet at a concert, are attracted, do loads of drugs and in between going to concerts have loads of sex.

Yes the relationship aspect seemed realistic, but I just thought it was a good excuse for a pr0n movie with some decent music instead of the tacky elevator music there usually is (allegedly )

I didn't see the point of making it so full on apart from to attract attention and piss of the Daily Mail.

Not a film that would do well except from the dirty mac brigade.

Maybe it's the prudish brits because this type of film has been common in France and Denmark etc for years.

I remember in the 80's they used to put foreign films on late at night with a red triangle in the corner to say it had sex scenes in it.

Oh man, did I start this thread?

Anyway, see Baise Moi and Romance for more mainstream soft porn.

It is undoubtedly pornographic, yet it isn't glamorised in the way a porn movie is. They wear condoms, intimate situations are explored which a porn movie wouldn't.

So can it be called a porn movie?

Trep is right.

I think it is an Adult movie term that stems from the guys only getting paid for every time they "complete the business" on camera.

Hence the "money shot".

Hmm..I dunno...to me, it isn't porn unless the plot either involves a hot female cop who has to go undercover into a bordello or a car wash....or both.

So it's amatuer pr0n.

Still not much of a movie though.

The music was good.

Two Mamas Tamborine is excellent! There's a genuine, disarming charm in it, expressive of the two boys' coming of age, their vulnerabilities, their idealism. I loved how their story intertwines (ha!) with Luisa's tragic revelation and how she in a way uses them to come to terms with it.

Maybe it's just that 9 Songs did a lousy job?

You should rent Henry & June. That was THE film that awakened in me the hunger for life's more sensual pleasures. Visually it's ravishing, and Uma Thurman and Maria de Medeiros are hot together. Near softcore, though, it was the first film to receive an NC-17 rating.

STFU!! You're getting me hard, man!

Oh okay. I wasn't taught this in school. I've just read that they go to an Elbow gig in 9 Songs. That's cute! And "Elbow gig" definitely isn't an adult movie term.
