Depends how the porn is depicted in the movie I think.
There's this one director, I forgot his name... but his movies really stuck. They exist and gather a cult following based on shock value alone. Maybe you've seen his top movie, Kids, with the passed out rape scene at the end. Then there's Gummo, which has some sort of awkward white trash vibe. Then he made another one called Ken Park where like a 14 year old jerk kid with an eyebrow piercing gives a forty year old women oral among other things. Also there's high and mighty Vincent Gallo who makes crappy art movies and crappy art music who made Brown Bunny with the oral scene with Chloe Sevigny yet again leasing her body out for a shocking role. No way have I seen any of these movies all the way through or more through patches because I have this one "alternative" friend who thrives off this crap. There's also another I heard about called Crash (Not the new one, the 1996 one) that has a scene where this guy has sex with this girl's scar tissue on her leg among other sex scenes holding the film together. Then there's John Waters, whom I've not at all been impressed with the movies I've seen even though indierockkids rave about him. I haven't seen his cult hit Pink Flamingos, but from what I've heard about the chicken ****ing scene where the chicken actually dies in it and sprays blood on screen, I think I'll just skip to the loo my darling. So I guess the moral of the story is most art "underground" movies are shit or something. |

There was a "chicken-****ing" scene in "Pink Flamingos", but I don't remember the chicken dying or blood spraying the screen.
As Jon Waters movies go, I've always preferred "Female Trouble" over "Pink Flamigos" because it has a more cohesive plot and far better dialogue. ScottMate

I haven't seen it, I just heard there was a blood spurt.
The chicken was definetly killed that way though, as John Waters said himself: "Well, I look back at 'Pink Flamingos', and the real blowjob scene is something that I wouldn't do today, because at the time it was a parody on 'Deep Throat', and porno had just become legal so it was like porno chic in 1972….I probably wouldn't do a hardcore porno scene today. Maybe I would. The chicken thing, would I do that today? Probably not. Even though I've defended it forever, we made the chicken's life better. It got in a movie, it got ****ed and it got famous. Would I today kill an animal in a movie? Probably not. I mean we ate them. We didn't have craft services, then, on 'Pink Flamingos' you had to go find something in the woods, kill it and eat it. There was no 'lunch' or anything." |

I saw 9 songs are liked it.
It's certainly not a masterpiece, but it's emotionnally quite strong, and the sex scenes look so real that it's in my opinion the complete opposite of porn movies. I went to see it in a movie theater, and instead of the uneasiness that such a movie would have been expected to summon in the theater, there was a sort of intimacy that spread through. Also, I went to see it with my girlfriend (we didn't expect such a degree a sexuality, really), and neither of us were shocked or offended by the images, and we were both quite shaken by the experience.

Hm, I wonder if there's also one for men... Nope, seems like there's only a book. Well then, ready your reading glasses, fellas, and think of the kittens

Why are people talking as if I want to watch a pr0n film? I just wanted to talk about how sex in the movies is increasingly becoming more naturalistic, and the fine line between pr0n and movies.

It's been like that since the 70s, nothing novel about it.

Sex scenes in movies like Ken Park are very realistic, but they're showing a dirty side of sex. It's sex seen as a perversion. That's been done a lot (I recently saw Matador, by Pedro Almodovar, and the first scene shows a guys masturbating to an horror movie... you don't see anything, but it's very suggestive). 9 songs is incredibly crude, but it's got nothing to do with perversion. That's a novelty. Unless it's been done in a ton of movies that I haven't seen.

Also I like how you depicted me as someone who has no clue as to what they were saying just because I haven't seen any of those movies all the way through. Very clever. I guess I'm not allowed to make a point until I delve into something I find awful with full interest intact. Real nice point there, you asshole. Good thing most people on the forum won't get it. Maybe you could next time realize that my post is valid in concerns of this thread content and has nothing to do with whether I care to watch those movies or not all the way through. I guess I'm not allowed to talk what's wrong with a religion until I've joined it, how I would know if I'm gay unless I had sex with a man first, or maybe how it's harmful to beat your idiotic offspring until you've actually socked them one. Get a clue, you can debate on the gist of things. But I guess you'd rather continue being a snooty mother****er. Well, carry on then... Last edited by syntheticgerbil; 07-07-2005 at 02:05 AM. |

Anyway, the only real point I saw in your post was : "So I guess the moral of the story is most art "underground" movies are shit or something.", and this only thing I can answer to that is that it's stupid and doesn't add anything of value to the thread, which I did, only with other words. Also, I hesitated to develop and say what I thought about each of the movies or realisator you named, but then decided that you didn't care anyway, or you wouldn't have posted in such a categoric way.

A debate similar to this is how I first heard about what is now one of my favorite films, "Dogma". ScottMate
