High
Lighthouse Family When you’re close to tears remember Some day it’ll all be over One day ’we’re gonna get so high And though it’s darker than december What’s ahead is a different colour One day ’we’re gonna get so high And at The end of the day We’ll remember the days We were close to the edge And we’ll wonder how we made it through And at the end of the day We'll remember the way We stayed so close to till the end We’ll remember it was me and you ’cause we are gonna be forever you and me You’ll always keep me flying high in the sky of love Don’t you think it’s time you started Doing what we always wanted One day ’we’re gonna get so high ’cause even the impossible is easy When we got each other One day ’we’re gonna get so high And at The end of the day We’ll remember the days We were close to the edge And we’ll wonder how we made it through And at The end of the day We’ll remember the way We stayed so close to till the end We’ll remember it was me and you ’cause we are gonna be forever you and me You will always keep me flying high in the sky of love High, high, high, high... It's my personal anthem, I sing it to myself every now and then.

It would be very good for us to state why our chosen songs reflect us. What does it mean to us? What about it speaks of our essence? The melody? The lyrics? That the singer sings it in such a way that is so 'us'?

Basiclly, "Loser" always struck me as the "I don't give a shart about anything" message of song that has always been my attitude. The music is great, too.

Muff Potter - Unkaputtbar (It's in German and what can I say? Punkraaaaaaaaaaaaaaawk! Scream and shout and kiss a bad day goodbye. Much better now. ) unkaputtbar. (irony and heroin. placebo-kicks, adrenaline. no one´s unaffected by that. these are ruins one lives in.) Sounds baaaaad in English. Yikes.

Truly, there are no real songs I completely identify with as they're not about me, they're about feelings I feel at different times. If a song relates to that, it's cool, but when I'm down I need to feel up, not wallow in it or accept that negativity as being part of my self when it isn't. Even upbeat stuff can get too much when you're happy, and you need to level out with Massive Attack.

... that said, if any song has any emotional resonance with me right now, it's this one -
When you try your best but you don't succeed When you get what you want but not what you need When you feel so tired but you can't sleep Stuck in reverse And the tears come streaming down your face When you lose something you can't replace When you love someone but it goes to waste Could it be worse? Lights will guide you home And ignite your bones And I will try to fix you And high up above or down below When you're too in love to let it go But if you never try you'll never know Just what you're worth Lights will guide you home And ignite your bones And I will try to fix you Tears stream down your face when you lose something you cannot replace Tears stream down your face And I Tears stream down your face I promise you I will learn from my mistakes Tears stream down your face And I Lights will guide you home And ignite your bones And I will try to fix you Fix You, Coldplay

"Blue Calx" from [url=http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000002MNZ//ref=nosim/adventuregame-20 Ambient Works Volume II[/url] by Aphex Twin. It has a mellow and melancholic sound, which reminds me of neutral blues and greens, my favorite group of colors. It's also minimalistic and measured, which reflects my personality.
One illustrator who's work I like has put together songs that also have a similar feel to them. I can't pick one as a favorite because they all have such a beautiful sound to them. You can download them from here under the Old Music section. |

'At the dark end of the street' by The Flying Burrito Brothers
At the dark end of the street that is where we always meet hiding in shadows where we don't belong living in darkness, to hide alone You and me, at the dark end of the street You and me I know that time's gonna take it's toll we'll have to pay for the love that we stole It's a sin and we know it's wrong Oh, our love keeps going on strong i would have posted the rest but every lyric site had completely f***** up the real lyrics. a shame really. i'll always be at the dark end of the street, not just when i had to secretely meet up with the woman of my dreams when her parents were out for my blood, but i'm a minority in society. i guess my beliefs aren't welcome here. |

Got to love this - http://www.ebaumsworld.com/ashlee-snl.html edit - sorry, that was a teensy bit harsh... if something sings to you, it does. A lot of writers for pop music are extremely talented and easily as valid as any other artist - witness John Legend, as an example.
