I like spelling it the French way, you little plebeian. Why? Because it sounds far more sensuous than the English pronunciation. Think about it....

English = CHAW-kluht

French = sho-kuh-LAWT

With the French pronunciation your lips purse, as if you want to be kissed. Whisper each pronunciation, and the French one sounds as if the word, the very idea, should be intimated (as if to a lover), not just flat out said.
