I went into the movie not knowing what to expect other than visually, because I've never read the comic books. The story turned out better than I thought it would be, and the movie was engaging throughout. It's worth seeing more than once.

For the record, I loved it (I haven't read the comics).
It's a very strange mix of un-mixable elements from a bunch of different types of movies, but to me it did the trick.

I thought it was a little weird, but also "fresh." I really never knew what to expect at any point in the movie. Over all, I liked it.

All I can say is that I can never look at Frodo the same after watching this movie.

I'm never really offended by movies, in fact, I like them even more when they're tasteless and violent. But even I had to admit I winced quite a bit at this movie. I've never seen so many decapitations, slicings, dicings, shootings, and explosions in a single movie. But it was really good.

The whole point of the movie is to emulate the comic books as closely as possible, bringing the panels of the graphic novels to life on the big screen. As a fan of the comic series, I have to say that the movie was beyond my expectations... it was absolutely amazing. If you pay close attention to the camera angles, the different cuts, you'll notice that they are mimicking the comic book panel by panel. The style presented in the comics just oozes out of the books and translates itself onto the movie screen, truly wonderful.
Anyone that even remotely enjoyed the movie should check out the graphic novels, if they have not already. All I can say is that the movie and the books truly complement each other |

I haven't seen it yet, but I do like the idea of throwing out all filmic conventions and simply telling - and showing - a story in a brand new way using film.

I saw it 4 times, so yeah I liked it. Preproduction has already started on the next one and it'll be out in 2006. I've read that they're doing parts 2 and 3 back to back, so expect plenty of Sin City over the next 2-3 years. I just hope all of the same actors return to their respecitive roles given there are plenty of reappearances.
There's an extended version coming to DVD but it won't be the initial one in Sept.

The color/black and white thing is a great find. Is it a characteristic from the comic books, or is it just in the movie?

From a little 'making of' clip I watched I found that they had to digitally enhance a lot of the movie to make it even more like the comic book. The impenetrable ink blacks you see in print was a bit of a problem, shows up as 'midnight grey' onscreen, so they made it as black as black can be.

It was so cool. Especially in the last scene where all the strippers were gunni**************************. Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot, some people haven't seen it yet. Anyway if you do prepare for the ending. IT IS SO FREAKIN' COOL! I must go back for more. And read the comics, their really cool too. And for once, a movie based on a "book" that doesn't suck. 9.5 out of 10 because of the stupid guy who gets shot in the back and goes "hey maybe you could... ya' know, call a doctor?" then gets shot in the head and goes "Awww man."

I still can't get my head round the fact that the grotesque yellow guy was John Connor.
Possibly the most extreme prosthetic work ever in cinema history?
