If you're

* human
* not from the States
* male
* like beer,

chances are high that you like that kind of sports. I know I do. Favourite team? Bayern Munich. Unfortunately they lost yesterday 2-4 in London, but we're going to kick the Brits out of the tournament next week in the second leg. We will! We will! We will! :devil:

Well, that's my babbling to start this long overdue thread. Your turn next.

*Observes own nickname* Yup that's the right thread. I personally like the Brazilian style of soccer. They are the most fun to watch. As far as European teams go, I would say Real Madrid. International teams- Obviously the US, then Brazil.

EDIT: By the way, the US is gonna win the worldcup in 2010. That's my prediction. And another prediction, 99% of the people here in the US will not know that we won the world cup.

Yeah that's for sure.
And the rugby world cup too :P

What? An US boy that admits to like soccer? I assumed that's a girly sport over there. :9 A former player of the US team (Eric Wynalda) played for a club not that far away from my hometown a few years ago. BTW what happened to Alexi Lalas? Is he some sorts of rock star right now or something? :D

Yeah it is definitely a girly sport. When you usually say soccer in the US, you say Mia Hamm. But we have a pretty decent men's team now, and they are only getting better.
I like the US, because I'm first generation American :P My kids (whenever I get married and have kids that is) will most likely be only into Football (American football for you folks). But I will try my best to encourage them to like soccer.
Not sure what happened with Alexi Lalas. Haven't seen him in the national team. All I know is we have Donovan, and he is a solid player :) He even plays in San Jose earthquakes which is like 20 miles away from here.

How you're doing in the World Cup qualifications then? Haven't checked the tables for quite some time now. But I remember it was a really though match between Germany and the US in 2002. Ballack saved us. I hope it's going to be a fine World Cup tournament next year.

Don't you just the look of Lalas ;)

We are doing pretty decent in the qualifications. We lost a game to mexico 2-1, and they pretty much dominated us. It was their revenge for being knocked out of the world cup by us in 2002 :P But we beat guatemala 2-0 last month. We are second in the standings after mexico in the north/central american and caribbean zone.

samIamsad 04-07-2005 10:43 AM

Lalas is a rocker guy . Period. :9 I hope second place is enough for qualification. Mexico is a tough competitor for winning that group. Who knows.. perhaps the US will once again be on the "run for Berlin". ;)

Kolzig 04-07-2005 10:49 AM

Favourite clubs: Fulham FC and VPS Vaasa

Favourite National team: Germany

I think the US should be fine. I'm definitely sure more than one team will qualify from that continent. We should be able to secure second position :)

Finland sucks in national level. :D

I of course watch every Finland match from the tv. But it's just getting a bit boring that we always get to stay out of European championship and World championship tournaments.

And now that our only true star Jari Litmanen is already 33 years old or something like that, he will retire very soon. And that's the end of all then.

samIamsad 04-07-2005 12:05 PM

Damn! I was just about to post "Litmanen retired." in reply toDude's question. :D Didn't know he's still playing, though. *whispers* Is our team that great at the moment? :P I think they'll have a chance winning the cup for the fourth time in next year's tournament. It's going to happen in Germany and all... We'll see. *keeps his fingers crossed*

If not us, then Italy. That would be fine. (My great-grandpa was an Italian.)

Kolzig 04-07-2005 01:45 PM

Litmanen does actually play right now in Bundesliga, he was brought there 2 months ago to help Hansa Rostock stay in the top league.

SoccerDude28 04-07-2005 01:48 PM

Litmanin is the only Finnish guy I've heard of :P By the way, who is the ace in the german squad right now? Is it Balak? or maybe Klose (sp??)

samIamsad 04-07-2005 01:54 PM

Litmanen's in Rostock and I didn't know. Eeek. Interesting!

It's Ballack. Arguably the only world class player we have. And Kahn, of course. He's getting old, but is still a damn good keeper. And damn fierce at times. :D

Well. maybe I'm an abnormality - I fit all your criteria but, and this a very big "but" - I cannot stand football/soccer :crazy:

I do like sports though, my favourites being Kickboxing, Boxing and American Football :D

Oh, and I do like to watch Snooker....... :D :D
