Speaking of Queen, have you heard Trail of Dead's cover of The Goldheart Mountaintop Queen Directory (originally by Guided by Voices, of course)? It's awful! It sounds like a really, really bad Queen song.

It has the desperation, but it doesn't do the same to me as "Welcome..." does.

Not much of Queen there I'd say. Just a tiny bit of Brian May inspired guitar play.

Oh yes! If you listen to the tones of some of the guitar riffs they screem Brian May to me! And the mid song changes in tempo are Freddy all over again.

Yes, some of the guitar play reminds of good ol' Brian May's magic. The part right after the guy sees something in the girl's eye.

I don't agree. That singer has no resemblance to Freddie Mercury's mature and cultivated voice or style. He's more an adolescent, passionate singer which works really well in this song. But we don't have to agree on this do we?

Nine Inch Nails - Mr. Self Destruct

I love these crazy guitars. Never been a huge fan of NIN, never knew what I missed.

Is that on their new album?

Aww.. I linked to this because the chorus and the general sound of both songs are damn similar. "Welcome to the Black Parade" minus the marching music introduction and its bombastic arrangements could have easily been a track on "Three cheers...". In fact, it's still pretty much a reprise of "I'm not okay" to me. Admit it, it's the piano that got you!

I don't know if your son has the full album (pretty nice artwork!), but there's a lot of stuff on "The Black Parade". My fav is probably "Mama", and that's not because of Liza Minnelli, although she suits that tune damn fine. "Cancer" I like as well, although most people seem to hate it. Quite a little bit of Lennon going on there.

Fugazi - Full disclosure.

Why the hesitation? It's out since last week or so (at least over here).

Little Computer People - ditto.

Sam, you've made me sit down and listen to these songs some more and I have to admit there are similarities. I'm not OK is "growing" but I can't help that Welcome... with like you said marching intro and bombastic arrangements made a whole different impression on me. (Don't forget that I used to be a big Queen-fan in my youth. And yes, that piano in the beginning did catch my attention.) What I really need to do is listen to the other songs a lot more. Not all songs are appreciated at once. And often those are the ones you like for a longer time than those apparent great songs like Welcome..

He's got a whole bunch of MCR songs on the computer. I'm going to have him fill my mp3 with all kinds of great songs to listen to during the flight to Gran Canaria this Christmas.

I'm listening to the ULB, Library of the land Hessen and of the University Darmstadt, where I am currently taking advantage of my rightful 1 hour of Internet access per student per day.

I'm listening to The Darkness' old Christmas single, Christmas Time (Don't Let the Bells End)...

Girlband - Three easy steps to emo
Scream! Give heart, sound like you mean it. Scream! Remember, your heart is broken. Scream!

Oh, and The Jealous Sound - The fold out. Boy isn't Blair Shehan's voice just awesome? I'm melting and I'm straight! It makes me want to dig out some old Knapsack record again.
