I wish I had more Orbital, as I've only recently discovered them and they're quickly becoming one of my favorite groups with The Boards of Canada, Underworld, Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twin, and Shpongle. Even more, it's a shame I discovered Orbital after they retired. |

Sweet! We seem to have very similar tastes.
If you're going to chase up Orbital's other stuff, I recommend giving 'The Altogether' an extremely wide berth. I honestly don't know what they were thinking when they put that album together - atrocious stuff. All the other albums are worth owning though. My favourite is 'In Sides', but that might be because it was the first one I bought / heard, and fell in love with. I think the Brown album is generally regarded as their best. Shpongle I haven't heard of. What kind of stuff do they/he/she do? |

Shpongle's a relatively new group, started in 1998, I think. If you've heard Hallucinogen (Simon Posford), and liked his music then you'd probably like Shpongle because he makes up half the group. The other half is Raja Ram, who was part of The Infinity Project. It's psychadelic...ambient?, and really good psychadelic (which is to be expected since both came from psytrance backgrounds). I'd recommend you listen to Tales of the Inexpressible first (specifically, "Dorset Perception" and "Once Upon the Sea of Blissful Awareness") and then go to their debut Are You Shpongled? I still haven't really listened to their third Nathing Lasts...Nothing is Lost but they also have a remix album that's pretty good.
I think they're actually pretty popular among electronic listeners, as far as current acts go. But it's not Oakenfold or Tiesto, it's more in line with the heyday of IDM in the nineties than the big dance acts of today....I think. Edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shpongle It says their first release was in 1996. Longer ago than I thought |

He was Cat Stevens when he recorded it, though.
Technically, "Cat Stevens" was only his stage name. His real name was Steven Catanopoulis or something along those lines.

Vaious songs from Smoosh's album She Like Electric. For a couple of pre-teen girls, they sure know how to make music.

Psychadelic ambient is right up my alley though, so I'll be sure to give them a go soon. |

Shpongle is psy trance. Not bad, but not really my thing.
np: Ivy - The Best Thing One of those neglected pop gems. This is what Saint Etienne would sound like if they prefered guitars to synths.
