What could possibly upset a ten year old in what's in Chit Chat?
I'd rather have them read our posts than watch TV, as far as sexual education goes...

Things were totally fine before this thread started, so why would we have to start changing things just because someone's asked a question about it?

- Should we block younger people from registering? No, because with a couple exceptions we've never had trouble with younger people on these boards. We've definitely not had more problems from younger people than we have from older ones.

- Even if we don't block younger people should we start censoring ourselves in case a kid is watching? Again, what? The board worked fine before this question came up and people started over-thinking the problem. How many letters of complaint has AG got from parents about their kids stumbling across this forum and finding inappropriate content? Or, how many threads have shown up from them? How many kids have written in saying their parent grounded them for reading the AG forum? I don't know the answer, but I would bet a lot of money on "none," or maybe "so few it doesn't matter."

Just because these questions were raised does not mean that it is suddenly a serious issue that necessitates us altering our behavior.

The fact of the matter is, this isn't an issue at all. None of these things are problems that really exist on our board. I propose that we do nothing and stop wasting thinking and worrying time on the mtater.

Jake, while I mostly agree with you, it might be wise to post a disclaimer, a cover-your-ass move to prevent liability. You know the kind - This site may contain sexually explicit language and/or cursing terms involving bodily parts and functions. Recommended for 16 years and older. Then if there are any complaints, you can point to this and say, "Hey, you were warned!"

I don't think there's any need for a disclaimer. I think it would give people completely the wrong idea about the site. We have a set of site policies. We adhere to them. The boards are moderated. We discuss AGs. Other topics are (mostly) in ChitChat. And people who toodle around internet discussion forums can expect to find other human beings expressing opinions on a range of issues.

I don't remember that. But I still remember my old AMIGA 590. In fact, I feel like playing some of the old games again. It's a pity that I don't have a free table right now. Otherwise I would get the AMIGA off my shelf right now, and play.

I first registered in a forum when I was 15, and started posting right away (sort of).

I looked up my first post, but found that it isn't funny enough. Instead, I present you my second post ever:

In their opinion girls/boys are yucky.
I am in 11th grade, and I am in the IGCSE biology course. Of course, there is also a chapter on human reproduction. This would be alright, because our teacher is very good, and would have finished the chapter without making anyone giggle.

But no. Our biology teacher was sick on that day, so we had a substitute which was really uncomfortable with the topic, and was always close to blushing. We all (I think this also includes the teacher), were glad when the lesson was over (saved by the bell?).

On a side note, I wanted to tell you about something funny. In my school we have sites of some topics blocked, as is usual. Well, Adventure Gamers and the Adventure Gamers are blocked because they have been found to fit in the category "Games". Nothing unusual with that, BUT (!), "The DIVIDE" (TLJ fansite), is also blocked. It has been found to fit in the category "Sex", for some reason. Really strange.

Considering I'm referring to AOL before the days that AOL offered Internet access, and therefore before the stigma against "AOLers" began, I wouldn't.

If I had a ten-year old child, I don't think I would want him/her to be reading about how an XBox controller could be effectively turned into a vibrator by having a dildo protruding in front of the controller. Maybe that just means that I'm a prude?

Or maybe I'm just watching out for myself because I don't want to deal with a ten-year old asking me what a dildo is? Guess I'm selfish that way.

Ah, I forgot about the dildo discussion. That is rather graphic, but the other threads I find OK. And I think laughter and a "yuck" would be a more natural responses from a kid to that. That was the response when I first heard...

...wait this is going beyond the scope of Forum Feedback.

Sheesh, gilly!! No wonder so many kids are screwed up these days, you seem to have the mindset of a parent that would help cause that screwup!

Little Trep: "Daddy, what's a dildo?"

Trep: "Where'd you pick up that word?"

Little Trep: "I was reading my favourite gaming forum, Adventure Gamers, and one of my friends gilly wrote dildo and that we're not supposed to know about that word."

Trep: "Oh. No big deal. A dildo is just another word for a device shaped like a penis that's used to stimulate a man's or woman's sexual pleasure. It basically makes you feel really good."

Little Trep: "Really? It's shaped like a little weewee?"

Trep: "Right. It's for older people who have already gone past puberty, so little kids like you can't use it yet because you wouldn't get any pleasure out of it."

Little Trep: "What's puberty?"

Trep: "Puberty is your body basically getting itself ready to make babies. For men it means you start growing hair in certain places and your sexual functions start working and you begin to make those little tadpole-like seeds that are part of what helps make babies. If you're a woman, same thing, except you start making these really tiny and pretty eggs. The man's little seeds get together with the egg and that's how babies are created."

Little Trep: "Wow! That's cool. When do I start my puberty? When do I get to use a dildo?"

Trep: "Not for another few years. You're still a little too young. And you don't need to make babies as soon as you get puberty. We can talk about that more after dinner if you want."

Little Trep: "Okay!! What's for dinner?"

Frankly, I don't think an 11 year old would know what the dildo was for even if he saw it. But maybe I was just sheltered at that age.

What about doing what online games do, and put something on the front page saying:

I'll just write what I was supposed to write, and I guarantee the thread will go back to Chit Chat. Ah, wait, Trep's post might cause that, too.

So, I heard about fellatio when I was seven years old. One girl in my class had found his dad's porn magazines, and she told us about the horrid images in it. We all went "Ewwww!", repeatedly. Then I talked to my parents about it at home, and I think they phoned the girl's parents or something... That always happened, I told them about what I had heard in school and then they'd phone the school or the parents, and I was never explained anything.

So, yeah.

Now you've got me associating your increased post count with fellatio, fov.

That's not so bad. I think I've got a bigger problem. Now, I'm going to associate fellatio with Wormsie. Have no idea if that's a good thing or not. I guess this wouldn't matter at all if Wormsie's not a cutie but he is! Now I'm more confused than ever.
