Since the closing deadline has passed, any chance of the answers being posted here? I'm sure we can all wait for the results (don't know how many entries you have to work through for that) but it would be nice to be able to kick myself for the ones I should have got right as early as possible.

I second that I did not send you the answers rio but I definitely took a look at the questions and I'm interested to know what I got right.

When playing solo pieces, there is no director - you just decide for yourself how long the note will be (usually it's at least 1,5 times the marked duration).

Back when I took piano lessons, I had a T-shirt that said " I'm a fermata - hold me!"

I second that. Definitely a hash sign. Us Brits should be able to tell a pound sign if anyone can.

Do we have a problem with different keyboard layouts here? How did you type this symbol, rio? On my keyboard the pound sign is above the 3 and the sign in the question is in the corner formed by the Enter key and the Right Shift.

Ah. This is always the best part of quizzes. Arguing with the question master over his "right" answers.

Which reminds me. I assume by "director" you mean the person at the front of the orchestra with a baton. We call them conductors in these here parts.

EDIT

I just realized that I accidentally put "Anconcagua" in the question about the Largest bone in the human body.

Elton, Stephurban - I think we're both right, its just a US/UK thing so I'll count both correct.

Deadworm - Its the same idea, of course you wont hold until the directors cue when theres no director

Fairygdmther - Thats awesome

Jazhara - I'm going to assume that you didnt think Aconcagua was the largest bone in the body and about Wikipedia, it doesn't have the strictest editorial policy.

I'd like to comment about the "pound" sign. # it is also called the "number" sign. The pound in question, however, is not the British pound sterling, but the rather the avoirdupois pound of 16 ounces. The weird thing about it, though, is that, even though we call it a "pound" sign in the USA, we don't use it that way. We use "lb" as the abbrev. for pound (?!).
